Virgin media issues?

Been on the phone to them this morning, apparently big issues in Edinburgh that aren't going to be fixed until the 12th! How annoying!

I decided to go unplug my router as all day I've been downloading at 3-10KB/s on 50meg. I plugged my laptop directly into the modem and got like 45Mb/s :o, I then unplugged it and plugged in the 15 metre ethernet cable which leads to my desktop. Though my desktop wasn't picking the internet for some reason. Restarted modem and desktop, ran a Windows 7 help thing and it fixed the problem but it was still really slow.

Now I'm just sitting by the modem with my laptop again, not sure what speeds I'm getting. But downloading from megaupload at 300-500KB/s and I downloaded the Asus tool I needed at like 2.5MB/s, though it was only 20MB.

Problem is when the parents get home if they want to use the internet :p
Just happy I can browse the web!

I've been having issues in Reading for months (since May). Every time I ring up, they say it is a fault in the area which will be fixed by a certain date. I've lost count of the number of times they have said this to me, and the date comes and goes with no fix.

Rang up today and got through to the foreign call centres several times, all of them were useless. The last person ignored everything I said and persisted with remoting into my laptop and doing pointless things that had no bearing on my connection. After an hour of this, she finally checks the area for ongoing faults/maintenance (which I had told her about several times during the call). She discovers there is indeed ongoing maintenance and that I should wait a couple of days before it's fixed (deja vu).
