I really cannot make my mind up as to whether this is genius or madness. It's certainly a different direction in wearable devices and would be great to see the same technology used for drivers to make sure they don't fall asleep at the wheel, or any other job that has serious repercussions if that happens.

Almost tempted to sign up for the trial lol :)

I think its a bit of both. I find it hard that something like this hasn't been invented before.

I'm sure it will be on the mass market soon though

good luck to them kids.

One question I have has been answered by the fact it's teenagers who've designed it.

Will it withstand the frantic back and forth shock when watching porn?

Ryan and Jonathan were commissioned by Virgin Media to help develop the 3D printed wristband which uses a pulse-oximeter to sense if the wearer is asleep or awake and then mimics the users’ TiVo remote control to pause, record or resume a show appropriately.

By "mimics TiVo remote" do they mean it sends the zap via infrared?

So I'm assuming it's not going to work under a blanket?

If I'm in any position to fall asleep while watching TV on the sofa, chances are I'll be cosily wrapped in a blanket pretty much 100% of the time.

Why don't they just make things people won't fall asleep whilst watching them in the first place? ;)

Ha! My wife needs one of these. Then I can tell, with proof, when she's passed out after vehemently arguing that she's using the TV and can get playing some games instead! :D

Damn, thought it was a trial for 300Mbit cable... Colour me ruffled.
