hi guys so i got vm 60mb installed on the 2nd of may and it was perfect for about a week, now my online games are pretty much unplayable.

ping test results are 69 ping and 35 jitter for a new 60 mb line this cant be right surely?

althou my download speeds are fast latency is shocking.
what could be causing this?

any help greatly appriciated.thanks.

69 ping is hardly anything to worry about, and a ping of that wouldn't make a game unplayable.

Are you hitting the cap where STM kicks in? as that not only reduces maximum speed but can make everything just run much slower.

Not much that can be done realy other then go to another isp I was a bit of a twich shooter back in the day and when I went from BT to virgin I felt how bad it is for gaming I know ur pain :)
Your ping should be lower might just be a bad night lots of peeps on
I normaly get 20-28ms in games as for packetloss/jitter that normaly stays the same for me all the time

Ping has nothing to do with the line speed, it will be the same whether you were on their original 512K or the quickest 120MB service. 70 ping is a little high but it really depends on where the server is your connected to, in most games that would still be okay?

I have been on Virgin for only 2 months now and games have been unplayable. Jitter causes me to warp on my opponents screens in Quake Live and this evening my pings are in the 150 range. I have already rang BT to have my line reinstalled and going back to my 6mb BeUnlimited connection, which was bloody great for gaming. Virgin are absolutely useless.

Bt was the best for me 2 there latency was great :)

you'll find during evenings your ping and connection on virgin degrades substantially. In my area its so oversubscribed our service stops for 2 hours on bank holiday and sunday peak periods and we are concerned about losing connection again this weekend for the bank holiday. We have 120mb connection on the VIP package so no one is safe from poor performance. 1ms and 0ms jitter when it's during the day on the best tests I've done, 10000ms and 5000ms jitter when we hit a holiday period........had to just not play Tera on the weekends for a few weeks too.

im wishing i stayed with sky now , this internet service is absolutely dire!

i get upto 6mb download speeds most of the time, but for gaming its useless, just been on the phone for over 50 mins on hold transfered etc etc then cut off im fuming >_<

it aint on all games its like this mostly GFWL - SSF4 what i play the most.

Anything shooter is a problem if the latency is not good but its fine for MMO's and Rpg's like D3 but ill always be a shooter man
As well I had problem's with the superhub resetting when I was trying to play TF2 in the week but hasn't doen that for a few days now :P its a never ending story with virgin.
And just to add another wound my IP refreshed about a month ago and now I can't login to origin as there is a block about 6 jump's to there login servers I just found Virgin proxy server today which seems to let me login

Which Is webcache.virginmedia.com Port-8080

css and mw3 etc play perfectly fine , im having trouble with super street fighter 4 and anything GFWL

could it be a software issue? i no gfwl is a total turd as a program goes , but i never had these problems on 8mb sky. :(

Seeing as we are talking about virgin can somone go in to command prompt and type
tracert loginregistration.dm.origin.com
the closer to london the better I just want to compare how many jumps its need to myn so I know if its origin or not blocking before I contact them as there another company with bad support and want to try everything before I go in to a rage :)

Perfect on the VM network then 100ms soon as it leaves.

Sorry to revive an old thread like this, but I'm moving to Trent Vale soon and was considering the VM 100mb package.

People at work (in Penkhull) tell me not to bother as it's a big rip-off and you never get the advertised speed... yet I've had cable before and found it much better than ADSL (particularly given the state of some of the phone lines around here), so I'm still tempted.

So what's the honest advice from someone in Stoke that plays a few FPS?

Search for the first part of the post code on the VM forum.

Thanks for the tip... it's full of "100mb is like 56kb" threads.

...although if I order them by date there were a lot of threads at the start of the year, but nothing new since about May. - Perhaps they've resolved the issues now?

Same as you Pobody, I had VM a couple of years back, lost it due to moving but have the chance to get it back in a month when I move into a cabled area again.

When I had it I had the slowest package but it was rock solid for 4 years. Been looking at getting the 30meg in BN15 but concerned that VM's move to higher speed has been on a network that can't cope with it. I wish at least as many who were happy with there service would post on their boards in BN15 as those that are.

My Virgin Media service has been dire since my area was doubled to 100Mb. I complained to the CEOs office back in January, was given a fix date of November, and have basically had enough now.

Another dissatisfied customer here. I've been with cable since it was "Cable and Wireless" and never had any issues, even with VM but the combination of the double up plus their super-hub (which it isn't) has caused all kinds of latency problems. Wireless is almost unusable at times :(
