Virgin Media, testing new speeds?

Looks a bit odd,

Was told to expect around 3meg up on the 50Mb.
Apparantly all new equip installed at exchange just for 50mb EUs, the current network will be used for all others according tot eh engineer thta was here last week, how much they know I dont really know, might not be accurate info
Last I heard, there was the possibility of moving the 20 Mbit service onto the 'new' network alongside the 50 Mbit. The other two tiers would remain on the 'old' network. I hope so -- it should make the 20 Mbit tier a bit more reliable at least.

Yep that is meant to be the case.

this is stupid must be a fault with speedtest, you will find in old normal NTL and Telewest areas that with optimum settings on the UBR (most are on more reliable QAM64 instead of 256) that the maximum speed that is possible is circa 38meg (64 will get about 30).

In old Nynex/NTL/cable and wireless areas it is possible to get 38meg on qam64 and if youre upgraded to QAM256 its possible to get 50meg

You may wonder why all this is there it is due to QAM64 being more of a reliable signal and the reason for Nynex areas being better is that they use 8mhz channels instead of 6mhz like Telewest/NTL
