We used to have Sky+ but since moved to virgins tv. I can't even begin to stress how much I hate their TV service. It's shockingly bad. I yearn for the swift Sky box to come back.

I also hate the remote. I've had Virgin/Tivo for about 3 years and I still hate the remote.

What's the picture quality like on Virgin over sky as they still use MPEG2 over MPEG4

Well I am in the minority of much preferring the TiVo box over the Sky box. Everything about it is better in my opinion, especially the remote.

I do think sky should work on a more streamlined remote. The current one is now old, too big and too heavy.

before virgin did an update to the tivo box a good few months back we have found its much slower now than before,we have to do an reboot every other week to get it back up to speed

Coming up to 2 years ago this Christmas I installed the last of the big top-of-the-range Panasonic plasmas in a customer's house. The off-air sources were a Virgin Tivo box and Freeview. I have to say I was utterly shocked and dismayed at the Virgin picture quality.

The TV had been in and run up about 200 hrs before I came back to calibrate. Virgins HD picture was (IMO) only marginally better than Freeview's Standard Definition picture. Freeview HD wiped the floor with it.

This isn't my only experience with Virgin. But it is the one that sticks in my mind most vividly. We were watching a variety of things including some live sport (rowing) from somewhere in the southern hemisphere. I recall seeing loads of compression artefacts on the Virgin HD picture and double checking that we were still watching HD.

Well I've cancelled the virgin deal in the cooling off period. Think I will stick with the free view and freesat (my TV has both built in) for a few weeks and see how I get on

Virgin makes up for it with the broadband. Its superior to Sky.

The box is just really clunky to use. Nothing is streamline or fast. It performs like a 10yr old piece of hardware. When I consider how fast Amazon Tv or other little boxes do things, it shocks me how abysmal the Tivo is.
