Hey,

Some of you might remember that I made a thread a few days ago on the HTC sensation or the Galaxy S 2. I'm just about ready to order the Galaxy on 3, BUT virgin gave me a call but I was busy with work so didn't really hear the guy out.

I was wondering as I'm an existing customer, how much leeway do they usually have in their deals? I know it's a daft question, but looking at their website, the 3 deals murder Virgin even if I'm an existing customer. I told the guy I'm not interested right now (mostly due to me dying of heat in a small room, trying to eat food at the same time and remembering how good the 3 deals are).

Am I right in thinking Virgin can't compare, I've heard a few bad things about their signal... but maybe I'm being overly harsh, I just don't fancy spending 30 minutes on the phone if I'm not! :p

No one lives and works where you do except you so commenting on signal is a bit useless.
No one knows the details of the offer so we can't compare that either.
The amount of leeway you have is directly proportional to how much you give them per month and even then, we can't tell you any details because giving away trade secret price enticements is a bad thing.

I've been with Virgin for 16 months now and I'm a bit mixed in regards to them.

I've had excellent customer service from them, the deal was fairly good.
HTC Desire for free
£30 a month
600 minutes
Unlimited Texts
1GB data allowance

However, very frequently I suffer from signal issues. I was in the Barbican centre a while back and my bro's iPhone 4 had full singal on 02 but mine couldn't connect at all :(

So Virgin are still on T-Mobile's network, right? But T-Mobile and Orange now share physical network assets (run by Everything Everywhere), allowing Orange and T-Mobile customers to benefit from the combined network.

In time (has it started already?) some formally Orange and T-Mobile sites will be taken down to save money due to duplication.

So where does this leave Virgin customers? Can they roam onto Orange yet? If not, when?

EDIT: Looks like it is happening soon: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Mobile/Virgin-can-roam-to-Orange/td-p/614247

Eurgh, second post tonight that I've wrote out on my phone only to press done and the stupid thing put absolutely nothing in the post box :(. So the summary of my previously written post was (although you've probably covered it with that link I just noticed :().

On orange I can manually select either "Orange" or "T-Mobile Orange" (or "Orange T-Mobile" I forget).

If I choose the T-Mobile one I can use 2g, but not 3g, so I'd assume it's the same/similar on Virgin, but not sure.

Well they beat the 12 month contract deal on the Samsung I was going to leave them for, without any hesitation. I even got them down by £30 as I said that there was going to be cashback.

I just asked for my PAC number.

3 deals are good, but I wouldn't go back to them in this lifetime. 3 are absolutely terrible.

I am on Virgin at present but also looking to possibly move back to T mob. Their service was top notch all times and with Virgin I've had a mixed bag of customer support.
Might try our 02 but they are pretty expensive :(

If you're happy with the signal you get atm (as other people saying that the signal is rubbish or awesome isn't really useful unless they use their phone in the same places that you do) I'd try and stay with Virgin. That's assuming that they match/beat the offer from 3.

Edit:
@mithrandir
Yeah, I hate Virgin tbh, when I had broadband with them I used to hate ringing CS.

But I'd still say if the OP is happy with the price/service he's getting he may as well stay with them.

If you're not happy with the signal that you get get a PAYG sim for 3 and see what sort of signal you get with it in the places where you use your phone normally. As you don't want to get a super awesome deal only to find that you never have any signal to call people etc.

I've got a Virgin Omnis 7 800min unlimited txt and data for £22.75 a month (my brother works for virginmobile so I get a sweet deal) customer service has always been superb and could not be happier with the signal. Im a bus driver and signal could not be better for me, places my old o2 phone would die or be very poor signal wise I get full 3g hsdpa.

They piggyback on t-mobile signal no need to roam as it just sorts its self out, whilst driving the only place I've had no signal is right down on the South coast Lyme Regis was sketchy but it is right down in a dip, all across Wiltshire Avon and Somerset I've had no problems even in buildings that have proven hard for o2s signal to get in to.
