Virgin router - Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS Questions

I've not even plugged this in yet so no idea what firmware is on it.
the label states username as virgin and the SSID as virgin BB so Im guessin its a custom firmware.

Router in question is a Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS

Am in need of a switch and remembered I had this in the cupboard.

Plan is: Disable DHCP, set static IP, connect to other router and use it as a switch.

Question is:

Should I even bother trying this if its Virgin firmware?
Or am I better off flashing to a different firmware first?

Well Virgin tend not to have the Netgear routers flashed with their own firmware. It just tends to have virgin as the username.

Although my Netgear is a DG834G, It was given to me from a friend who had Virgin and I can use it on BT's service just the same and there is nothing different than a retail version.

aah kk so they aint messed with firmware and features, sounds good.

Will mess about with it tomorrow.
