Virgin Superhub 2 as Access Point

It will not pair on the network unfortunately. Virgin have to "allow" hardware onto their network.
not sure what you mean .. you probably couldn't reuse the sh2 as a modem on an adsl link, but otherwise they work as an access point.

whether Virgin will update the Software automatically....
speaking clearly , I block updates, like I do on my plusnet modem, so my settings cannot be overwritten, and, also reduced chance that 'grey' sh2 is disabled.
(like I do windows updates)

Virgin manage the updates for the hub on its network.
Hub has to be connected to the network as a "live" appliance so it can update through its WAN interface.
As the hardware has been "disconnected" from the network, it will not update as it will not establish a connection.

Sure, you can use as a WAP but it will not update as the WAN interface is not active.

Soooo, over the weekend, something strange happened.
My WiFi on the 2nd SH2 (AP) was woking as well as the WiFi of the main router (SH2) but then it suddenly stopped broadcasting agin.
Interestingly, the broadcast stopped on both SHs tho, no just the one I used as an AP....

Wired connections were still working without issues.

I have no idea why this would be happening. But I think what I will try next is to give the AP (2nd SH2) a differnet SSID than the main router.
I don't see why this should be an issues, but I guess its worth a try.

Why waste your time with obsolete hardware. Just buy a proper AP and move on.

On an enthusiasts forum, really?

"Why bother overclocking, just buy a faster cpu".

For reference, the wifi on the SH2 is not as "obsolete" as you understand it to be. Have you considered that for some people, they do not need a "new" AP?

For example, I needed a WAP for my printer, so I repurposed my SH2 and it works for the intended purpose so why should I do as you suggest and buy something when I do not need it?

They are obsolete, buggy, and were poor devices even in 2013 when they were launched.

For £20 you could buy a brand new MikroTik hAP Mini that is fully supported by the manufacturer with regular firmware updates. There is nothing "enthusiast" about re-purposing an old router. An enthusiast wants full control over a device and with a locked down Virgin SH2 you have none of that.

I know this a late in reply, but are your two hubs wireless interfering with each other (ooh err) given that they are prob set on the same frequencies ? they need to be set differently and also not with any neighbours frequencies. But you prob know this and I'm just stating TBO :)
