I use a Netgear GS108 8 port Gigabit switch on my 30Mb and it's working nicely. The 608 looks good but do you need Gigabit or is Fast Ethernet OK? The 2nd link is not Gigabit.

If the WRG614 has the ability to disable the DHCP then yeah you can use it as a switch.

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't think I need Gigabit, since Fast Ethernet looks sufficient. I will be connecting a NAS drive, so I am not sure if that benefits from a Gigabit network -- details here:

The WRG614 was the old Virgin kit that was running the 10Mg connection, so that is why I asked.

Can I assume the log in credentials (for WRG614) are the default VM settings, i.e, admin & changeme. After logging in I assume I just find DHCP in settings and disable/turnoff?

Thanks again!

Ah the NAS, I forgot about that!

in this case Gigabit is advised. With a 100Mb switch you're going to be limiting the potential of the NAS quite a bit.

As for default logon, yeah should be or you could just press the reset button at the back if not.

Yes, the NAS indeed. OK, I got it now. Thanks again for the help MRK.

EXTENDING VIRGIN SUPERHUB TO ANOTHER ROOM

Hello,

I have one other question with regards with my Virgin Superhub. I would like to extend the physical connection between the terminus in the living room to another room upstairs and relocate the hub (upstairs) by using the following extension cable:

http://www.aerialshack.com/metre-virgin-extension-cable-p-612.html

I would like to know if the signal degrades by running this additional cable or doesnt it make any difference at all?

Thank you,

Gerard

OCUK cheaper and better support http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-001-SY&groupid=46&catid=1834&subcat=

and get a TP-Link 1gig 5 port switch it does the job very well.
