Being realistic it does sound too good to be true, if everyone used it as a home broadband connection i believe virgin media will drop this unlimited non sense prehaps.

Or i could try it for you and use up 100gbs of data at least and see what happens heh.

I'll be looking at the bill you see, it should state how much Data you have used up.

Then if that is true, then i'll show it but i would be removing sensitive info though like customer number and that sort of stuff.

But at the moment it is a mystery in a way, maybe it would cause virgin to say something.

Either way being too good to be true would be the case, just look at three the mobile network provider, they once launched a one plan with unlimited tethering and then shortly after that they dropped it saying they will no longer offer unlimited tethering you see because people were using it as a home broadband connection.

Virgin are not their own network so they use the EE backhaul, so if virgin are not 100% clear on their tethering policy then who is to blame eh?

Also if virgin permits the usage of like hundreds and hundreds of gb virgin have no one to blame but them selfs and should have thought twice like three did.

It is like as if they want to keep their tethering policy a secret and just say it is unlimited this or that which can be a little bit confusing.

Anyways i would use it to stream films via amazon fire tv ;-)

to the tv as well as a laptop.

If i have to use tethering then i will use it but not abusing you see for the sake of it so i won't be taking the mickey on that one.

Tethering would be the last thing i would use, as it can use up a lot of data.

But in my mindset consensus 50-100gb is acceptable usage a month just using the phones internet to stream youtube etc which is not tethering, not using tethering at all.

But looking at my data usage in the past with three i used up roughly 30gb which is not bad at all.

If i abuse tethering i would just feel bad which is why i won't be doing that.

Any case nobody asked me to abuse tethering so fair enough.

Yeah i do mostly think of it like that after all i have researched regarding virgin mobiles press release and the like which does not really mention regarding tethering heh which does not even state much infomation on tethering you know?

Somebody has to test it to see if i can do at least 150-200gb's via tethering, so apart of me feels like hell yea and the other part of me feels bad.

All i need now is a laptop to use my phones wifi/hotspot/tethering and just download 24/7, other wise the doubt will never be blown plus there are many on lookers on this thread possibly potential virgin media mobile customers.

So yea i am up for giving a green light on how much data i have consumed just to see if it is unlimited tethering or whether i experience a throttling policy on my mobile's internet connection i will let you know whenever i do this or not.

Anyways i get like 30mbps or 40mbps varying on signal and tonight i will tether my phone to my brothers ps4 since his internet is adsl and like 3 miles away from the exchange and only gets 3mbps so this would be roughly 10 times faster.

So apparently it seems that virgin is the only network provider to give you unlimited tethering with no caps or speed throttling, i will find this out first hand as i will monitor my connection speed as well as how much data i have used up.

Still have not done 150-200 gb via tethering anyways the download speed was like 20-25 mbps on the playstation 4.

Tethering well and truly works though.

I think 150-200gb is a realistic data usage for people who use this as a home connection or watching netflix or amazon fire tv and downloading the odd file.

Somewhere in my heart, something tells me that it is well and truly is unlimited tethering as well as this picture below regarding facebook comments at the bottom of the webpage.

So according to tom with his facebook account. yes it is unlimited tethering.

Are there anybody out there who still thinks that this is too good to be true because i think virgin actually is allowing unlimited tethering despite that they may do the same as three you see regarding unlimited tethering because three reduced it from unlimited to 30gb hotspot you see.

As for being too good to be true, i think it is unlimited regarding tethering, just have to wait and see if virgin changes their tethering policy if they even have one, if it is too good to be true then virgin will put a data limit like three on their tethering hotspot whatever.

In the meantime i would recommend virgin's deal at 25 quid to anyone as it is cheaper than three for unlimited everything, but you have to be a virgin customer for cable internet telephone or tv.

So far in my experience regarding the service on virgin mobile in Bournemouth, compared to three it is a lot better.

It is in a way kinda like a night or day difference between my experiance with three and virgin mobile which uses the ee network, it is like comparing a ssd - solid state drive to a bog standard 7200rpm hard drive, it is that snappy, it loads straight away instead of a bit of a lag which i experienced with three especially with you tube on the phone but as for tethering it does not seem to be as snappy on the phone but i need to test it with a laptop.

Out of all network providers i have been with it is this, i have been with EE them self's paying like 35 quid a month for 16gb data allowance which i cancelled the contract when it ran out and three 23 quid for 200 minutes dunno about text and all you can eat data and paygo 35 quid each time for all you can eat data and then there is virgin them selfs, 25 quid for unlimited everything which i am satisfied with.

So i am saving 10 quid a month because three pay go cost 35 quid every time for unlimited data you know.

I don't like to be tied to a contract but my mother is the account holder so she is paying for it @ £25 every time, anyways when compared to three which virgin beat's in terms of price is £34 quid a month on a 12 month contract.

Then there is giffgaff below @ 25 quid a month with a 20gb allowance and then if your over that then you get 384kbps speed reduction during daylight hours then full speed in early morning hours.

So yea in this arena of unlimted data text and calls are Virgin media mobile them selfs and three and giffgaff roughly anyways excluding vodafone and threes go binge as far as i know as the pictures show above.

But out of all 3 of them, it seems virgin media mobile is the only one to give you unlimited tethering apparently so correct me if i am wrong.

Lycamobile also do unlimited data.

Anyways this 4g.co.uk states clearly that tethering is unlimited on virgin mobile hense the picture above but looking at the picture above... it says about giffgaff saying speed is reduced after 9gb which i think is misleading because giffgaff says after 20gb of data used then they will get the speed reduction you see >

But i think i am confused with what 4g.com is saying about giffgaff and what giffgaff say as i have not checked giffgaff tethering policy but giffgaff tethering and roaming is capped at 9gb as 4g.co.uk says and the picture above, so i don't know what that exactly means.

How I look at it is, if you don't need to abuse it, don't. If you really need it, use it.

I'm on a bespoke package with VM, technically their FUP said no tethering (unlike this which from reading suggests it really is, until people start to really abuse it and then get throttled maybe), I use probably 2-5gb month tethering and it's fine that it doesn't raise alarm bells.

There will be people who will use TBs, but why? They're VM subscribers so use the home connection or the free WiFi you get logging automatically into everyone else's VM connection.

You should be fine using what you are using as and when you need it, I think.

You should be fine using what you are using as and when you need it, I think.

That is the best sensible advise in bold in the quote, use more wifi which is connected via router to coax cable or adsl or fttc vdsl, download songs whichever really onto your phone using wifi.

I agree tethering would be the last option.

Anyways for me, i don't use tethering much but to use it as a backup connection or use tethering because the download and upload speed are faster than a adsl line you see, but apart from that i use around about 30gb of data a month on the phone and that is mostly by streaming youtube on the phone or amazon music, all done by streaming on the phone but i could download songs but there isn't enough space for my entire collection so i would need an sd card.

I rather keep virgin's tethering a secret leaving people to think it is too good to be true etc, because it is showing no signs at all of stopping regarding tethering plus to keep it a secret virgin has done quite a good job at that by not being 100% clear on that, otherwise if people knew that it was unlimited tethering then well yeah slow the network down heh correct me if i am wrong about slowing the network down.

Some people would hate me for abusing virgins tethering so well yeah.

It feels like hardly anybody is using virgins mobile network here in bournemouth which is why i want to leave it as a secret regarding tethering, they can stay with o2 or ee or vodafone or bt mobile or all of the mobile networks for all i care because there is only 1 provider out of all of them which stands out to me and that is virgin media mobile ;-)

Thanks to the op @Vuvuzela, i have found a gold nugget - virgin mobile i may as well tether and see if i can do 450gbs...because only the op brought this virgin sim card discussion up and to reward him by showing that i have done 450gbs in a image showing my data usage, otherwise i would never of knew about this virgin deal @ £25 a month.

I might get cut off virgin media mobile network for doing 450gb anyways i will post my full experience while i try and do 450gb, but the thing is i can't be bothered at the moment and also contradicts what i have said i will only use tethering if i have too.

As for keeping it a secret i don't really mean that ;-)

But giving a green light to people who are curious with this virgin deal i would be among the first to give a green light on my experience with tethering but...only use tethering if i have too so i am thinking about 50gbs of usage done via tethering me thinks.

Anyways as has been said apparently virgin does not allow tethering at all, but in my experience first hand and 100% confidence tethering fully works for me and is because of things like this, which is why i treat it this way you know, regarding all my posts in this thread as well as this one to shine a light on first hand experience, as well as some articles off website and pictures, but first hand experience is best.

Anyways i got a wifi dongle coming, so i will be using this as my home broadband connection and i seem to think i will get better pings in games you see, because of the virgin media sh3 hub thingy you see which is crap so affects ping times.

I expect it to use 30-50gb of light use in a day on the computer since it would use a lot of data, anyways my rough estimation will get proven right or wrong regarding data usage.

So all in all the purpose is to test if i can do 200gb at the very most and share the picture here, then i won't be doing that again unless i find the ping times to be better than my actual home broadband connection.

I hope to god i don't get charged for extra Gigabytes on my allowance, and in any case i shouldn't since i am on the £25 a month package so it should be fine from what i have read which is that when you used all of your data up on the non unlimited plan then if you go over your data limit then you get charged.

From what i have read is that it is indeed unlimited tethering...only in the uk that is.

Varying on where i put my phone, as i am now using my phones internet/tethering on my main pc.

pings were like 200-400ms due to signal strength, placed it near a window and am now getting 40-50ms ping times.

An update,

Almost done 30gb and the speeds show absolutely no signs of slowing down, i know since i am looking at the download speed on steam.

If you was with giffgaff your speed would be reduced by now since they allow 20gb then 384kbps and almost three's hotspot allowance of 30gb.

So giffgaff and three and not lycamobile are virgin medias main competitors because they allow tethering so i think lycamobile doesn't.

I have done 48gb via tethering, during the whole time i didn't experience slow downs at all.

If you find one, that works, and it's a reasonable price let me know. I have terrible signal at home but I'm only bothered for voice. I have 350mbit so don't need to bother with the hassle of tethering devices, I only use tethering for it's intended purposes i.e. away from home.

I know with Three they have a 4g tether limit of 30gb p/m. Though there are apps you can download off android store that can tether with it just appearing as normal data. I'm pretty sure Three get suspicious if you download more than a 1000gb a month on their unlimited data sims

I am a total newcomer here, anyways looking at the price we are talking £100-200 and yeah looking at 3rd party boosters and not ones issued by network, but when i find one issued by network then i will get that if i can, maybe someone could help finding a 4g booster done by the mobile network called virgin media mobile.

Yes if you do 1000gb then that will most likely get their attention, when i was on three i used about 100gb.

Because of ping times i won't be using this for online gaming, just browsing the internet, download the odd file, watch youtube and or amazon music or amazon video and that is it.

So as i need a decent laptop with the longest battery life i am looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad T470.

So what i am trying to say is that it is not worth using as your home broadband connection, let alone abuse it because of ping times and download speed, but apart from that, it is the ideal backup connection on the go that is, you can take it anywhere in the uk.

The lowest stable speed i get all the time is 20mbps or 2.4 megabytes per second and can jump to 40-50 mbps in my experience while downloading gta v.

I need a blog but hey...

This gives you a better idea of what pings i am getting, mostly it is sub 30-50 ms but spikes up to around 100ms to 300ms, as i tested the ping in different areas inside of my home and not outside.

I have just tested the ping again outside in the garden and it is slightly worst then the pings which i got inside, instead of around 63 ms average it is 75-77ms outside.

Ping i got outside are these two tests/graphs below.

Hello, Great deal this however still with three uk at the moment paying £24 all u can eat data with 200 mins unlimited text 30gb hotspot.
My usage in the last 7 months have been crazy to be honest.
January 146gb Feb 177gb March 250gb April 134gb May 203gb June 123gb July 245gb
From today chatting to three uk retentions I manage to get my month bill down to £15 a month with all u can eat data with unlimited text minutes and 30gb hotspot 1 month contract.
