Virgin XXL

Unless you plan to take over the world and must download the entire internet, how would you need 50MB?

I had 2MB (Upgraded free to 10MB) and it's only on overnight once a week downloading. (and that mostly pron!)

We upgraded as soon as it was available and have never looked back :). When you upgrade it signs you into another 12 month contract so make sure you're 100% sure.

how did you get the free install.. i did argue.. must have gotten some horrible person not willing to budge?

When I initially queried I was told as it was a product change, not a speed upgrade (like from 4 or 10 to 20Mb) that install was required. There was a free install promo going at the time and I was told no install fee, just the activation fee of £20. I didn't order then as I was still umming and aahing.

I called back a few days later and ordered on the phone, everything fine and was told £50... £30 install and £20 activation. I said I'd been told it was free install.... new customers only! GAH!!!

I left it until my bill came in and I raised a webnote and asked them to look at why I was charged install fee when it was free install promo.... got a reply back about 10 days later - Very apologetic and have your install fee back!

Kinda cheeky, didn't expect that response, but it worked.

I have had the issues also, but then so have my friends who have been on both 10MB and 20MB.

I am not certain if that is just in my area though, restarting my modem 3 times a day recently is extremely annoying.

I will say though that I love the service other than that, I would not like to go back down to 20MB.

I have just started to get that as well :(
I had a tech come round and he changed the modem but I am still getting Timeouts in the UPstream T3.

And newsgroups seam to be slow.

Just tried another one:

Did phone them today, they said they are having problems in my postcode area and that engineers are working on it (Automated messaged).

Their website still shows nothing of the sort.

I wouldn't get your hopes up mate.

They are saying the exact same thing wherever this is happening around the country.

Simply don't have the infrastructure in place to deal with the amount of users they have/are signing up - hence why its a disgrace during peak hours.

I phoned Virgin up to cancel the Tv package as I have sky Ended up with 50 meg broadband for an extra £4 per month.

They lowered my Tv package to the lowest so i dont get charged for it and replaced the charge with the 50 meg.

I love it and only need to reset modem once every few days

Its going to cost me an additional £8 /month to upgrade from 20mbit to 50mbit, reckon its worth it guys?

I'm pretty sure I am too, I always get full speed from my 20mbit.

Are there any tips / tricks to get a cheaper upgrade (i.e. the chap whose got his upgrade for only £4 /month - how did you manage that?!)

Scrap getting 50Mbit, I have to pay a £55 setup while new customers only pay £20 and Virgin won't budge on that at all (just spoke to 3 people one of which was a manager)!

They are quite evil over the installation fees. We had our 50meg installed when the installations were free. I was told I would have to pay it initially and it would then be credited to my account.
So I paid the £50 on a seperate debit card, waited for my bill and found that instead of crediting my account they had infact billed my account. So I infact paid £100 for my installation. I've rang various times and just got passed from department to department, I sent a letter 2 weeks ago and still no response.....not best pleased!
