I realise they have throttling during peak times but my 4- 10 mg L package slows down to 76KB second which is about 1MG in 25 seconds seems a bit pointless downloading at that rate but its a bit poor if thats the only time your available to download !
I also notice that when you sign up its very difficult to find any mention of throttling !

The way Virgin media have treated their customers is appalling.

The problem is they know that they can take any shoddy company, re-brand it Virgin and sheeple think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

It's still one of the better options though, unfortunately.

you have to download a certain ammount (800MB if i remember right for the L broadband) during the trafic management period for it to kick in, so you at least get to download a fair ammount before it goes to a realy slow speed.

It really isn't a lot these days though is it, the average demo weighs in at well over that.

or about 30 min film !
It slows down to such a crawl then after 5 hours my pc crashed so will have to start all again :(
Seems a bit pointless paying for a fast download speed if you can only download a small file between 4-12 pm .

and you download 30min films or game demos every single day between 4 and 12? plenty of other hours in the day, and if you download large ammounts during prime time, then you are a heavy user and as such deserve to get slown down so you dont make other peoples connection worse.

move on kid.......this love afair with the bearded one's broadband supply is over!

Try an independant supplier. You'll pay a little extra but it's well worth it. No throttling, experienced help on the phone, constantly good speeds, reliablility and your usage won't affect other users as they don't sell chunks of data access in such small pieces. What's not to like?

Any recommendations for south west !

for all my complaining about virgin I'd rather stay with them.

I'm moving to sky max soon so be on the look out for my grumbles when I switch to them.

I usually do my downloads first thing in the morning and have my program auto shut down my pc when finished much easier.

Thing is, i've found VM throttle me even when its not in their 'peak times'...

For example, yesterday evening I waited until 9:30pm to download a 900MB patch for TrackMania...

30mins after the supposed 'Traffic Shaping' time (4pm-9pm) as stated here:

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html

Yet, lo and behold 700MB into the download... BAM... internet speed drops from 400kB/s+ down to 100kB/s...

And doesn't return until the morning...

VM are a bunch of cowboy's and couldn't run an ISP if their life depended on it, come back NTL... all is forgiven :(
