Virigin optic 30 meg wireless problems

Hi there,

I've recently just got Virgin's 30 MB Fibre Optic broadband and wired speeds are great, and best of all, constant. However, the wireless from the Superhub is absolutely dire. Even sat next to the damn thing, my wife's Macbook gets barely 1mb speeds.

So, on a quest i went to find a solution. I read about a lot of people with the same problem, and their solution was to set the Superhub to modem mode (which renders the Superhub's wireless obsolete), and use a secondary router to stream the wireless. So i used our previous providers router (a rather crappy orange home router) to take care of the wireless. It works rather well... most of the time. The Macbook and other devices can now pretty much replicated the wired speeds, but it's not constant, which i know is just wireless...But.. The connection seems to drop altogether sometimes, and at other times slow down to 1mb or less. But i am baffled as to why. My wired speeds never slow down or cut out. So it has to be down to the router I've got as the broadcaster.

Do I possibly just need to get a better router to do my wireless? I'm a novice when it comes to networks, and i was looking at what i can use for this. Can any recommend some good products to try? I'm not sure if i need a router, or i can use something build specially for just this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Id suggest you try changing the wireless channel. If the channel your router is currently on is congested e.g. several neighbours also using it you will see a decrease in performance.

it's called superhub. homehub is BT.

have you tried to change the settings of the wireless to see if it changes anything? like different channel or so?

Corrected that. I've tried changing various settings, but i will give changing the channel a go right away.
