'Virtual Memory Too Low'

Recently my laptop has started playing up, if I leave it on too long I get these warnings popup:

Also, the laptop won't shut down properly, if I turn it off it just closes windows explorer and freezes on a fullscreen shot of the desktop background.

I have to just press and hold the power button to get it to switch off.

It's running fineish, but slower than usual. 3gb of ram.

Was thinking of just doing a fresh XP (maybe even Windows 7) install. But can't be bothered at the moment.

Any idea what the problem could be?

Have you turned the page file size down? Either way, try increasing it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513 (under the XP section)

I would be tempted to do a format and reinstall myself. Whether it's XP or Win 7 is your choice

Also I feel that if the specs are decent enough, then Win 7 will be a pleasant surprise for you...

I forgot the attachments, but I've decided a fresh isntall of W7 is probably the best bet anyway, thanks for your time.
