Virtual PC 2007 or VMware

VMWare workstation preferably if you just going to be installing virtual machines on one computer.

VMWare server if you want to install and view virtual machines from a server.

I've found VMWare workstation a lot better (for my uses) than the new VMWare server, it's lighter, easier to use and strips out the web interface stuff which really isn't needed if you're not working over a network.

However, workstation is pay for.

But you're installing the 64 bit version (VirtualBox-1.6.4-Win_amd64.msi) so why would you want it in Program files (x86)? Have you actually tried allowing it to install where it wants to, out of interest?

That's the issue it won't install, get so far and rolls back :(

Correct about the x86 was being thick and desperate :)

try creating a new user account and installing in that..

virtualpc is the fastest vm

I'll give that a bash but still means I'd have to jump from one user to another to access it, defeats the point of doing in though....

Thanks guys

I'll try and report back, I really wanna try virtualbox though as everyone seems to like it and it free :D

VMware is nice, I recently tried Virtualbox and I like it, seamless desktop integration is a step in the right direction but not 100% there yet, also the automatic mousegrab is really good, but a little buggy. I never liked virtualPC tbh.

are you running AVG by any chance?

did a bit of reading and some people reported that with AVG installed they had that error (for other products, but still)
