Hi everyone, I was hoping I could get some help and advice with building a PC to replace my current 7 year old machine. The last machine I spec'd and built from scratch was an Athlon XP so I'm a bit out of the loop.

I'm looking to start studying for an MCSA and due to a lack of space for a server I'm wanting to take advantage of Hyper-V being included in Windows 8 Pro, combining a General Purpose machine with a VM Host.

My main constraint is space (60cm max case length including cables) and I'd also like it to be quiet (no water though, I don't believe water and electricity should mix!). I've put together the following with that in mind:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS Radeon R9 280X iPower IceQ X2 Boost 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £227.99
1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD256BW) £164.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £149.95
1 x Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Midi Tower Case - Black (CC-9011015-WW) £119.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit DVD - OEM (FQC-06949) £109.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED316GM1600HC11DC01) £101.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £89.99
1 x Noctua NH-U14S Ultra-Quiet Slim CPU Cooler with NF-A15 Fan £62.99
4 x Antec TrueQuiet Pro™ 120 Revolutionary Quiet Cooling 120mm Case Fan £12.98 (£51.92)
1 x LiteOn IHAS124-14 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £11.99
2 x Silverstone SATA III Cable 50cm Angled / Straight - Black £4.99 (£9.98)
Total : £1,359.47 (includes shipping : £14.75).

I already have a monitor and some spare hard drives for storage/vms. I chose an r280 (HIS, for the quiet cooler) though I fear this could be overkill? The only games I tend to play are CS:S, CS:GO and Supreme Commander, I've no preference between AMD or NVidia as long as it's quiet. I also went for a 4790 instead of 4770k as I don't forsee myself overclocking and the non k chips have additional virtualisation hardware.

I wasn't sure about the CPU cooler (seems very expensive for what it is) but it appears quiet and definetly won't block a RAM slot if I need to go to 32GB. Regarding the price if anything it's a bit above what I'd like to pay, so I certainly wouldn't be looking to go higher.

Any help would be most welcome.
