was just watching videos on youtube and MSE pops up saying there avirus on my pc so i run it and i also run malware bytes, there both about halfway when up pops a screen saying i need to pay to release my pc as its been locked. so i restart in safe mode with networking and run malware again and it finds 2 virus's so i have them deleted and it asks to restart.

It restarts with a beep but xp has gone to a basic screen mode and the taskbar has gone and the windows key does nothing also, IE wont start and firefox has no conection, so i restart in SM again and try to run malware again but now it comes up with "runtime error 372" Cant load vbalgrid from vbalsgrid6.ocx.

I tried MSE next and than wont let me scan as it says "Couldnt start the service" Error code:0x8007042c

Im now really stuck with what to do, ive got my laptop so could i try and download a antivirus software onto a usb stick and try getting one to run that way or is there any other way.

really need some help :eek::eek::eek:

Download it on the clean laptop, put the exe on a USB stick and then run it on the dodgy PC, in safe mode if needs be

Down the right hand side there is options for Scan, Delete, Fix Host, Fix Proxy and Fix Shortcuts. Run each in that order, once it's done (assuming it finds/fixes anything) try MBAM again
 
ran rougekiller and it found about 8 virus's so ive deleted them, i restarted in normal mode but it still bleeps and its still running in a basic style and somehow its deleted my network connections and wont let me make a new one so theres still now internet. also MSE and malware still come up with the same errors even after ive tried the new one off the usb stick.

Looking like its going to be a reinstall as i cant see anything fixing that
 
restarted with all startup turned off and its still the same, it all went funny from the first time i ran malware bytes it seems like some part of windows has been deleted dunno if a antivirus program could do that?. games still play just most of the other stuff wont :confused: looks like a new install :mad:
 
I would be restoring a system image at this point or doing a clean install. Also the free version of Avast is excellent. Just saying ;)
 
i had one similar but a fake police one,what i did was run malware bytes in safe mode delete them then their is a weird typed file in startup maybe 2,i deleted them then it was fine after
 
ive tried everything i could think of but nothing works, seems like something is up with XP as nothing will work and theres no more virus's found. Tried system restore but it wont load and ive tried using the xp disk to do a repair but it doesnt have the option. Time to do a reinstall :(

Time to upgrade to Windows 7, hell, even Windows 8 would be a massive improvement in terms of security. Were you running as administrator? ;)
 
You could try running malwarebytes from hirens boot cd, boot in to mini xp and run it via the hbcd menu, that way the OS on the hard drive is inactive and doing this will scan the files on the Hard drive and hopefully get rid of any nasties.

Otherwise re-install, use a better AV and use a non admin account.
 
Nothing wrong with his choice of AV. Take advice from the guys at MBAM:

  • Keeping all software (Flash, Adobe, Java and Operating System) up to date with the latest security patches
  • Disable things like Java or Flash in your browser unless you absolutely need them
  • Use Ad Blocking software in your browser to prevent you from ever coming in contact with malicious advertisements
  • Never trust any link sent to you from anyone unless you are using a secure method of communication and even still, if you are suspicious about a link, paste it into Google to get an idea of where it goes without exposing your
    system to threats.
  • Never pay fines if faced with Ransomware or follow the directions of anyone holding your system hostage. The best thing to do is find a different system and search on the Internet to determine what the threat is and how to remove it. You can always seek the assistance of the Malwarebytes Forum Support experts without paying a dime and they are happy to help.
  • If you really want to be safe, employing the use of a virtual machine, a sandbox application and/or a Virtual Private Network, are your best chances for avoiding online threats and still being able to surf without constant
    suspicion. However, using these tools does require a fair amount of technical knowledge and you should seek assistance online to learn how to obtain and use them.
