Hi all, anyone know how I can get rid of this please

BrowserModifier:Win32/Hopadef!lnk

it keeps coming up in windows defender.

I done a safe reboot and ran a full defender scan, and malwarebytes last night, and it removed some stuff, but 10 mins after rebooting the pc, it is back

any ideas please?

thanks
ian

I assume all your files are backed up?

Reinstall Windows.
I have learnt that wasting time on trying to remove a virus is pointless, just do a quick reinstall and you are good to go!

Do you have system restore enabled? If so, it may be coming back from that.

Nevertheless, as others have suggested the safe way to know it is gone is to format and start fresh.

for a reinstall, do i need to do this please?

To reset your Windows 10 PC, open the Settings app, select Update & security, select Recovery, and click the “Get started” button under Reset this PC. Select “Remove everything.” This will wipe all your files, so be sure you have backups

never done one from when my pc was made

I use chrome, I have no add-one/ extensions running, I have deleted them all.

another annoying thing that started happening today, is chrome opens up 2 tabs,

http://0.0.0.1/ and http://0.0.0.0/

I have rest chrome settings, but they still open up when I open chrome.

On a + note, after running ADW cleaner, I have not has the windows defender flag up any viruses, so hopefully it has fixed the problem. Thank you Billy1280 and everyone for the help so far

scrap that, they have started to pop up again.

can anyone tell me a walk through guide to re installing windows 10 please?

thanks
ian

edit to say, do I need to just go into settings, update and security, recovery, reset this pc?

if so, from there, do you know what i need to select next please?

Echoing the above, AdwCleaner does a great job at removing things stuck in your browser settings.

Malwarebytes + AdwCleaner will most likely remove everything. It's worth checking the scheduled tasks too in case something is set to install/run on startup or on a loop.

thanks all, I tried to do a reinstall, through the windows settings, but it would not allow me.

since then, I have not had the virus pop up anymore on windows defender.

Im hoping that it has been removed now.

am going to run the AdwCleaner now, thank you

If you find the virus comes back and you want to reinstall windows go to the link below and click Download Tool Now it will download a boot disk, run the file and choose "create installation for another PC" then stick a 4gb or above USB stick in and choose the USB option. Once its created the boot disk you can restart the PC and hold delete to goto your bios, find your boot options/order and change the USB drive to the first boot option. Then it will boot into windows setup and you just follow the instructions to install windows. I normally copy the latest graphics driver and all my motherboard drivers onto the USB stick also to speed up installation.

Make sure you backup any files from you bootdrive you wanna keep onto another drive, i normally just copy the whole C:\Users directory as all your saved files and profiles are in there normally, they can be dragged back across after so you dont have to setup a lot of your software again after youve reinstalled it.
