virus program afect performance ?

does anyone turn of their virus program whilst gaming

i run avast and it auto updates

during a cod4 mp session it flashed up in the right corner telling me it had been updated causing stuttering and a drop in fps

just wondered if anyone turns theres off whilst gaming and will it lead to better performance ?

I set my AV to update at 5am in the morning, doesnt affect gameplay then casue im asleep

Mine is always off, I scan stuff manually if I don't trust where it's come from. (avast!)

Yep i use kaspersky but always turn off whilst gaming online... less running the better no matter what your rig is

usually leave mine running when gaming (avast) may just switch it of from now on.

It will have a slight effect on performance even if it isn't updating. A few years back it was more noticeable but as CPUs have got faster the effect is smaller. I can remember switching the router off, turning off the virus checker & firewall in order to squeeze a few more FPS out in a non networked game (memory was both limited & expensive).
