virus

If your windows is past repair now and your worried about losing data . Add this drive as slave to another PC . If it's recognised , it'll come up as another drive icon with your folders & files .You can easily transfer what you want to keep .But ,before you transfer files , do a good anti-virus scan on this drive , you dont want any virus transfered too.

If you're having difficulty running any programs, try running them from the command prompt, incase it's explorer that's causing the problem.

Well I reformatted, scanned it with nod32, which picked up a trojan after scanning for a second time. it won't pick anything up now.
Adaware didn't pick up anything.

This morning the same bloody problem happened, i'm not a happy chappy. :(

I can't run the command prompt to try what you suggested.

I've tried to run various registry fixes and stuff on it this time, gotten nowhere.
I was the last one to use the pc, I didn't open anything except mozilla and msn, hmm. Its been fine for the time it's been fixed.

hmm well I would have fomatted and reinstalled, obviously i would have tried to backup what i could have 1st though.

reformat tbh.
why reinstall over a old install, you have to reinstall all the apps again anyway, so doesn't take any longer.
Once you have a virus, that has done major damage format tbh. Even if you fix it, it'll never be the same.

Then install only 1 anti virus.

Just do a backup/format/clean load. No point fannying around with repairs, dodgy registry fixes and hours of scanning.
