Which would be better?

i've always had a 32bit version of xp just because it was old. I was going to go for 64bit xp for the RAM allocations.

what's the main differences between vista32 and vista64?

Hey Reality Bites, if anyone is looking at purchasing a new Operating System then their is no reason not to go for Windows Vista. The support for Windows Vista is now excellent and the majority of the hardware and software out their now work absolutely fine under Windows Vista.

Now regarding weather to get either the 32-bit or the 64-bit edition of Windows Vista will all depend if you have a 64-bit processor. If you have a processor that is capable of handling 64-bit instructions then their is no reason to go for the 32-bit edition. You won't see a massive performance increase going from a 32-bit to a 64-bit operating system as of yet since many programs have been written for 32-bit architectures. However this will be changing in the future because with 64bit being more recognized, more and more programs will be written under 64-bit architectures. When programs are released that are written specifically for 64-bit, you will then start to see a performance increase from 32-bit applications.

As you all ready know, 64-bit Operating Systems can handle a lot more memory than a 32-bit Operating System, however their is a lot more to a 64-bit Operating System than that. This article is fantastic and well worth reading.

If you are also debating over which Edition of Windows Vista to go for, then here is a great graph that compares all of the editions of Windows Vista with one another.

Hope that helps. :)

top post! thanks!

i'm just trying to decide whether to go for home premium or ultimate. I've been reassured that the driver issues of first release are much better now.

i was going to get media centre for xp but thought for the small increase in expense, vista would probably be the best way to go.

Vista x64 Ultimate, if you can afford. Anything less than Ultimate and you'll just be left wondering if you should have gone for Ultimate. Of course if you never needs the things that Ultimate provides (everything) then don't bother with Ultimate.

id personally go for 64bit as i think thats the future.

vista home premium and better come with media centre built in.
