I have just built my system incl
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 rev 3.3 (bios 8a with default settings)
WD 2500KS sata2 250GB HDD
Optiarc AD 7170s
Vista home premium 32bit.

On first start up i entered bios & it showed my HDD correctly & my Optiarc dvd drive correctly. I inserted the vista disc & it showed no hdd to install vista onto.

I have been to Gigabytes support page

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/...rboard&ProductID=2454&ProductName=GA-965P-DS4

and downloaded the drivers but vista still doesn't find these drivers even though i tried a floppy & burnt them onto cd.

I have connected my single HDD to the mobo through the intel sata socket & even tried the gigabyte sata socket.
The installation cd which came with the mobo isn't supported in vista(when i left the install cd in my cd drive vista didn't find any compatible drivers on it.)

Am i not extracting the correct files or have i got to point vista towards a specific driver file?

thanks for taking the time to answer.
those bios settings are already as you suggested.

I still can't get vista to find the drivers on floppy or disc(the one's i've linked from gigabytes support site above.)

Will vista use these files exactly as i've downloaded & saved them?Have I got to extract & use certain parts of the linked downloads?

One of the driver downloads hints towards F6 during os install. Vista doesn't use F6 on os install, you just browse for the drivers in your system. Can i browse for sata drivers on the vista installation disc?

cheers mate.
I have been going around in circles at gigabyte/intel/microsoft looking for good old sata driver (no raid!).
I must be either stupid or missing a point here somewhere I think.
Have e-mailed intel for what it's worth.

Joy at last

joy

found the intel ICH8R driver on the Gigabyte link above.

Connected hdd to intel sata socket on mobo

Downloaded file motherboard_driver_sata_gb_sata2_raid_bootdisk32

Ran download & saved to folder named gsata 32

Put gsata32 on floppy.

Ran vista installation disc, inserted floppy & took tick off of don't show drivers compatible with hardware found.

Selected Intel ICH8R sata raid driver which installed

Low & behold WD2500KS Hdd showed up at last.

Hope this might help somebody else.

PS i could not get any of the Gigabyte drivers to work on the Gigabyte socket.
