vista 64 4gig trouble

after a quick look on the web i found this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930261

You might want to try this out if your getting the errors listed.
I'm supprised to see that vista is having issues with memory size, as its built as thier main OS for the next 3+ years.

For most people i would still make sure the suggestions i posted earlier are setup correctly. If you still have no joy then the above link atleast should show some signs of light at the end of the tunnel.

Personaly if you "Need" 4gb of ram, for vid editing or workstation apps, then like howiepoohs stated - if you dont need the whoooo! looks factor and a few minor other updates, windows XP 64 is a very very good OS - currently the most stable Windows based OS available (also now has good quality driver support).

I have another older rig that I dual booted to vista x64:

MSI K8N Platinum Plus SLI
2 x XFX 6800GT
4 x 1GB Memory (Some Crucial Sticks)
AMD 2800 Dual Core
Creative SB Xfi Platinum

This one is stable with up to 3GB. However, with 4GB (need to enable memory mapping in BIOS) I can boot but 'dwm.exe' spins on about 40-60% and makes it unusable. I get frequent BSODs also.

Not sure if this is something to do with the virtual address space above 3GB being reserved by all those PCI-E cards or whether vista x64 just doesn't like the memory hole/mapping scenario.

All I know is that on my main rig - P5N32-E/4gb/single 8800gts - with no memory hole/mapping option it just works.
