Vista 64-bit codecs

About to do a fresh install of Vista 64 bit and wondering what the general consensus is on codec packs. I've installed the CCCP pack before on 32 bit Vista with good results but I'm not sure what the deal is with 64-bit. Do I need a special pack of codecs and what would people recommend. There are also both 32 and 64 bit versions of media player supplied but I don't know where this fits in.

I know getting all your codecs working properly can be an utter nightmare and is fraught with problems and dangers so this is one thing I want to sort straight away and before I activate in case I end up in a right mess and have to start again :)
 
I use k-lite, real alternative (got a load of rmvb anime) and x64 components pack. All the codecs work fine (file allowing) in wmp11, windows media player classic etc. However I still can't get the mkv/xvid files to play in media centre (its 64bit and it doesn't like the current batch of codecs) but everything else works and as I hardly use media center not exactly an issue :o
 
I use Media Player Classic with the following

Real Alternative
Quicktime Alternative (or Alternative Lite, forget which Im running at the mo)
FFDShow

Plays everything I can throw at it. OK, non x64 variants, but I don't think there are any.
 
Use KMPlayer myself. Has pretty much every codec you'd need supported internally within the program, thus I've not needed to install any codecs whatsoever.

I used to agree with that and so I used...

what you need m8y is: Vista Codec Package & Vista Codec x64 Components.

However I now use...

... and now I ask myself, what nightmare..??!! As everything works fine and if my browser needs a plugin to play a media file then I install that plugin but apart from that I have no need to install a collection of codecs when I can use the KM player, which plays everything that I need it to.
 
Thanks guys, that Vista Codec Package seems to work a treat.

Have installed the x64 components one too but haven't tried switching over to 64-bit WMP to try it - what's the point exactly? Is it worth even experimenting with 64-bit WMP or should I just stick to 32-bit?
