Ok, heres the problem.

My X-fi card makes a sort of crackling/humming sound that is quiet but noticeable. This only happens when graphics are changing on screen eg scrolling a web page, or turning on media player visualisations. There are no conflicts in device manager but it seems there is some sort of issue betwen the Graphics card and sound card.

Does anyone have a fix for this? or is this just a recurring theme with X-Fi cards as a search on the internet throws up loads of pi##ed off owners!

Many thanks,
Stew

System: Vista 64bit, 4gb ram, Geforce 8 GTS 512, X-FI, Asus P5k-e Wifi MB, Core 2 Duo 6320.

If you have SP1 installed you will ahve to reinstall the sound drivers and reset your speaker setup. this is one one bug I have noticed with Crreative drivers. No need to go back online just click into your x86 Program files directory and creative/update and look for the driver install from there. The good thing about leaving them there is that there is no need to download them again and a CRC check is made to validate the file information is correct.
If you haven't got SP1 installed try the same thing and you should get the same result. One bit of advice, try to reduce the crystalizer threshold. sometimes it is too sensitive for its own good and ends up crackling and popping. Usually this is caused by the fact that there is a timing issue with the drivers. On most motherboards the Xram has problems sharing with the FSB state. This is why most overclockers have issues with the XFI interface. Even those whom have the PCI EXPress version have this issue because either they have placed it in an 8 bit slot nearest the Graphics card or a 16 bit slot furthest from the Graphics card. The only fix I know for this is for Creative to actually get together with MS to get the best Hotfixes for each Motherboard type. The Nforce 680i and 780i are hit worst by the problem. The Nforce 4 boards seem to be working fine with all drivers.
A warning though, a BIOS update will not fix your MB compatibility problem with the ineterface. I hope that may be of some help to you. If the worst comes contact MS and they may send you a Hotfix to download. I do not know your complete setup or I may help you more.
