System setup atm:

C: (250gb) Windows XP install, my documents, program files etc
E: (160gb) Purely for storage, music games videos etc

I am getting Vista soon and I want to install it on my system but I have no idea how I would go about doing this. I'm guessing I would need to partition drives but again I've no idea how to do this. What's the best way to go about doing this? Will I have to format everything and backup data and start from scratch? Cheers guys.

If you want to keep XP, then Partition Magic (or similar) can shrink your XP partition and leave you space for a Vista partition. Vista will automatically write a new bootloader and give you a boot menu on boot-up.

Or you can just insert the Vista DVD and select the Upgrade option. Pretty much everything will remain.

Or back up any important files on C: and do a fresh install on C:.
