Vista. Better than XP?

I didnt read the link, but what you state here is flawed (ironic when you are trying to find flaws in someone criticising vista). Unless your PC has only 1 hard drive and only 1 partition, then there will be no other files right after a reinstall. Reinstall by definition means that its not the first time the PC has been loaded with an OS.

Well since your obviously asking for an argument rather than a debate, I'll point out a flaw in your post.

Firstly, the vast amount of installs will be fresh installs with one partition and one HDD, yes it is possible to have files but, and lets not lose sight of the point of this, would you want this feature for a picture for you welcome screen?

Secondly, "Reinstall by definition means that its not the first time the PC has been loaded with an OS." Well done. You know the definition of a reinstall, you must be very pleased with yourself. Now what relevance does this have? Where did I mention reinstall? I was talking about fresh installs on a new PC, which will be the majority of cases.

What a silly point to make. Now, do you have something useful to say?

Actually I was trying to broaden my horisons as far as the new Vista OS is concerned and was just pointing out that if u say something which I know for a fact is totally incorrect that I just would be inclined to doubt anything u may say which is new to me. Thats my point. It actually makes for frustrating reading, if u can see it from my point of view.

Keep it calm guys, it is only an OS and nothing to get worked up about.

megatron he does specifically mention fresh install. I know that it is possible to do what you suggest, but in my opinion selecting a custom user picture during install is just unnecessary complication, but you are indeed correct that it is possible.

However the point is I would hardly call the lack of this feature one of the key issues with Vista.

OK, but you've misinterpreted my post. I said: "Oh, wait, we're doing a fresh install and so there isn't any files on the PC."

I was talking about a hypothetical situation to which the feature is pointless. I wasn't saying this was true for every install, just for the scenario I was talking about, and in that regard, nothing I said is wrong. :)

Edit: I don't usually get annoyed on the forums, but this was an exception. I apologise for my sarcy comments :)

Fresh install /= brand new PC. Typically its used to mean the difference between a format or using the XP CD to copy over the system files.

IMO, 'fresh' would imply nothing left over from the last install. Maybe you have a point, but lets be honest all this is very trivial.

I have to completley agree with that article, the first problem I had with vista before the driver issues, lag, mobile devices not working with home basic and crashes was the interface being so crap and taking ages to do everything, even turning uac off was a challange, and the hibernating button being where the shutdown button is making it take ages longer to shutdown when you accidentally click on it and can't stop it from hibernating.

Xp was an improvement in useability, vista seems to make things much harder.

Every day millions of people travel on airplanes which take off thanks to SOFTWARE, fly to their destination again thanks to SOFTWARE, and finally land yet again thanks to SOFTWARE. However, NO ONE EVER said "Software is great!", yet one crashes and comes the chaos.

Windows vista has 90% good things and as always with everything some bad things.

Yet again, everyone goes for the bad things.

Go vista or MAC or Linux (suse 10.2 etc) if you like advancement because all are simply newer and better than windows xp.

ps: I still hate Microsoft for playing games with privacy tho. But just today the goverment announced they will put up a superdatabase and share our information. Its becoming common :(

I rephrase this:

The only thing windows xp does better than the others is play games (proprietory drivers etc..)

and on a side note:

"Executive Summary

If you work in an office environment and hold a position of influence, you would do well to have anyone fired who suggests your organisation should move to Windows Vista."

makes me think the guy is getting paid :p

If he'd just said 'Vista sucks lololol' and spewed some rubbish about DRM then it would be one thing. But he has gone into great detail about the shortcomings as he sees them, with clear examples and multiple images to explain his points :)

I get his points and myself can conclude that vista has flaws. It is obvious if its flawed right? But, we are forced into Vista (DX10, industry developing for Vista... and the VISTA CERTIFIED logo on every box.. haha I love this stuff :p). However, none setups blogs to address the issues and MAKE M$ fix the issues instead of "Dont use vista, forget DX10 .. tetris runs fine on DX9" etc.

ps: If you cant fight the system, join the system.

An otherwise good post except for the last two paragraphs of drivel.

XP on 64Mb Yewen? Source or not, that would not be of use to anyone. I couldn't put up with that. I had 256 with 98SE?

I don't know how young you are, but XP came after 2K and by that point there were thousands of 512+ and smp rigs...

Your having a laugh. :p

I think its going to be very interesting when millions of people get their new copy of vista to play with, certainly with rc2 I just could not get the lan to talk to the router even though the hardware was working, I did a search and quite a few others were having similar issues. For some reason the wireless worked fine though. I also think you'll find quite a few bits of older hardware are never supported for vista. I hope vista isnt another ME.

The guy who wrote that review is well known for spamming nonsense condemning anything Microsoft/Visa on tech sites, news groups etc. That seems to be one of his better written critique.

His usual stuff goes along the line of HAHA VISTA HAS THIS BUG AND IT'S LOL MS SUCK HAHA.
