Vista Better Than XP ?

Hey,

I've always had XP on my system and have still got it on this one now.

However, My girlfreind has just brought a new laptop with Vista on it.

And it looks better in terms of UI, but is it ?

I was thinking of installing the vista she got with her laptop onto this system my desktop PC cos i do have some issues with this installation of XP.

Would it be recommended ?

Firstly, it would be illegal to install her Vista on Your PC, unless you have a separate key.
Secondly, by all accounts, Vista is better, but your better off getting Windows 7 as it replaced Vista.

Yes, Vista is better but, IMO, it's not enough to be worth upgrading to unless you're:

a) re-installing the OS anyway
or b) buying a new computer

To be hones I really really like the way Vista looks but I think its easier to use Win XP and its quicker and snappier but a lot of people will disagree in here.

Win7 all the way though, this is my favorite OS atm.

I prefer Vista but if your thinking of a change of OS wait till 7 is on general release.

I read an article the other day where a guy was saying the biggest threat to 7 isnt Mac OS or Linux distro but die hard XP fans.

If you look back at what XP was when it was released it was a terrible OS full of bugs and holes, its a miracle it survived as long as it did.

Install Windows 7, XP is so dated and sluggish and well... pretty awfull compared to Windows 7.

Vista is massively superior to XP, however 7 is superior to vista, due out in a month and generally currently heavily discounted if you pre-order.

Just go W7, it's what Vista should have been in the first place.

Thanks, is it the same facility as you're able to get Windows Server 2008 for free?

My college set me up a ELMS account, unfortunately it doesn't have Windows 7 just yet but it does have Server 2008 which I might get... getting taught about server 2008 in college :\

Edit - I'm used to XP but I prefer Vista after I've turned aero off and UAC.

Yeah Server 2008 should be available too, it's pretty much everything bar Office.

Windows 7 final has been available via MSDNAA/ELMS since mid-August. It's down to the program administrator at your uni to enable new software titles though, might be worth asking at the helpdesk.
