Hi Guys...

I am seriously considering buying a copy of Vista (OEM) for my rig...

It contains the following components:

EVGA 680 SLI (Socket 775)
Intel Core2Duo E6600
2Gb Corsair XMS6400C4 (Dual Channel)
EVGA nVidia 8800GTX 768mb
2x Seagate 320Gb 7200.10 Hard Drives (RAID 0 Array)
1x Maxtor 80Gb 7200.10 Hard Drive (Storage)
Corsair 620w ATX 2.2 PSU
Belkin PCI 802.11g card (cheapish but only 4 months old)
Leadtek Win PVR 2000 Deluxe TV capture card (4 or 5 years old)
Dell 2407WFP Rev. A03 24" Widescreen

The version of Vista i have chosen is the 64bit Ultimate one, which i think is £135inc VAT from OCUK.

Will the system have any problems running it?

Are drivers availiable so that i can have everything run as it should?

Is there anything that WONT work if i upgrade?

I have the HDD's set up in RAID 0 - and the drivers with the EVGA motherboard are only for Windows XP... will i need drivers for this or does Vista detect it automatically?

Not at all.

The nVidia drivers are questionable, as are the ATi ones. However it will get better with time.

You may also have problems with these two:

Belkin PCI 802.11g card (cheapish but only 4 months old)
Leadtek Win PVR 2000 Deluxe TV capture card (4 or 5 years old)

You'll need to check the manufacturers website and see if drivers are available.

It won't. You'll need to see if EVGA have or are releasing RAID drivers, as it'll ask for them during setup.

I installed Vista using Win XP RAID drivers on a machine I have. They worked fine.

Give it a go. I think you will be OK.

You don't need Vista drivers for everything - XP drivers work quite well (except for video drivers because the driver model under Vista for video is completely different).

Not on the 64bit version!

Does Vista come with standard SATA drivers integrated in it or do you have to install them seperately like you did with XP?

Possibly, I believe it depends on the board and the BIOS' ability to imitate a SATA drive as an IDE one.

I do know that as yet, RAID drivers are a requirement though.

LOl i just tried the ati/amd requirements

LOL my 6800 Ultra 425clock ownz

got another 6800 ultra coming 2moro

I installed 64bit Vista Ultimate and am getting absolutely NO joy with Belkin on a 64bit driver for the wireless card

SB Audigy Value has got drivers but they are BASIC to say the least. Rubbish is too harsh a word, how about cr@p!!

Logitech G-15 keyboard works ok-ish but keeps popping up with errors.

Everything else seems OK but some of the mobo software doesn't even run to try and install (Asus A8N-SLI Premium) so no firewall and other nice bits.

Software wise most things are fine and it looks beautiful, however NTL Netguard refuses to install
