Vista Drivers

I think the biggest problems with driver availability are going to come from TV cards, wireless cards, and sound cards.

Companies like ATI/nVidia and Intel/AMD can't afford to NOT get drivers out pretty quick, considering the competition and how many people own their products.
 
64bit drievrs for the above are a total mystery at the moment and they will filter out eventually, this is why i tried windows xp 64bit to see if i could get all my drievrs, unfortunately I couldnt! There was a stop gap 64bit driver for my d-link usb wireless adapter but it only allowed me onto the net and not to online games, annoying.

32bit drivers with Vista however are fine, no problems there really but I would assume the 64bit support is the same as xp's at the moment

p.s i kicked the tests ass too

It's not.

XP64 was atrocious, and will continue to be so.

As i've said before, drivers will NOT install without WHQL certification. And a company needs to produce BOTH types to get certification. So if a company wants it's product to well... work... then it needs both sets.

Vista is a whole different ball game to XP.

Oh well i thot it was still shocking 64bit support, iv got 32bit oem now anyways but will be going vista retail i.e 64bit when the drivers are actually supported properly

Well if anything XP64 was an "experiement" by Microsoft to gauge what the consumer reaction to a 64 bit operating system would be.

However by then many had already bought the x86 version and weren't too keen on changing everything over to x64. As the uptake was poor, so was the driver support.

I fully expect the next incarnation of Windows to not have a 32 bit version. At all.
 
Yep, hoping Belkin, Creative and Logitech get their fingers out of their butts and get it sorted for end of Jan retail release :eek:
 
Logitech are normally good, if a little slow.

Creative are plain awful though, and I plan on getting an X-Fi. They will lose my custom if there are no Vista x64 drivers though.

Don't forget as well that the official release date is the end of this month. I actually phoned another company out of interest to ask when they would be selling Vista and got told 3rd Feb!

Therefore most manufacturers are aiming for Feb, and their driver release schedules refect that.
 
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe 939 socket :) , did look on Asus website no luck , the customer service at Asus is about much use a chocolate tea pot

Thanks for the info.

If i cant install the belkin wireless card, would i be able to run a network cable from my wireless laptop to the Vista PC and suck internet connection from it when its on?

Also, are all the drivers i need to watch movies, use MSN and surf the net etc etc availiable for my system then - and will i be able to play colin mcrae rally and flight simulator?

Lastly, do i go for Home Premium or Ultimate. I'm a uni student so saving money is great, but if Ultimate is worth it i will.

yes true,but we are talking another 2 years or more for that to happen i think .. ;)

It comes with drivers for the common chipsets. But the installer also now supports USB drives for SCSI/RAID/SATA driver installation. So even if it doesn't detect your controller it's not exactly a major hassle like it used to be.
