Trying to convert a video so it will play on the DVD player downstairs. First time i have done it, using Vista DVD maker. Is it any good? Also how long does it usually take? When i started (tried to put it on a separate core) and it froze, came back to life for a few secs then froze again. After a few mins it settled and its down about 7% in ten mins or so. That sound right?

Are they easy to use? If it works, Vista DVD maker is very easy to use.
Both WinAVI and ConvertXtoDVD are easy to use, and should present no problem, of the 2, I think ConvertXtoDVD is the best.

If I remember correctly (and if I am wrong I'm sure someone will kindly correct me), Vista DVD Maker, will not support the conversion of divx/xvid to MPEG2, for authorizing into DVD Video Files. :)

EDIT:

The last comment about Vista DVD Maker is wrong, it can do this task, have a look Here - although it does to take quite a bit longer than 3rd party encoding software.

Just tried near full DVD with ConvertXtoDVD - did it in 50mins! Much better than Vista which took at least 2 hours! Ta

If it's divx/xvid we're talking about here, you can save yourself a lot of time by buying an xvid compatible dvd player. You can get them for as little as £20. Plus there is no quality loss from transcoding between lossy formats.

Just make sure that Sammy supports xvid as well, if that's the format your videos are in. ;) Some divx decoders won't decode xvid properly.
