Any idea why my hard drives won't stop accessing , as im typing this its grinding constantly havent experienced anything like this with Xp .Thanks

It's Vista pre-load feature, it fills memory up with applications you haven't loaded up yet, so when you do load then up it's already in memory.

it'll be indexing.

think about it, it's not going to be loading stuff into memory constantly, wouldn't take long to fill even 4GB of ram.

You should be able to disable indexing, disabled on XP too. It's really just for file searching afaik, you don't need it enabled.

Eventually your disks will calm down, it might take a few days but once it's indexed everything and sorted out your prefetch it should be a little better.

How does one disable the indexing anyway?

If it's the same as XP, Administrative Tools, Services, Indexing. I have disabled loads of services, you just don't need all automatic/started services. Don't disable Workstation. :p

Although IMO Indexing is one of the most useful things in Vista. I'd think twice about turning it off.

Given both Indexer & SuperFetch have low IO priority, despite the fact the disk is reading your PC will be no slower. And following Google's research results yesterday, there's little or no correlation between disk accessing and disc failures. So, the only issue is 'the noise'. No other implications.

:D vista shows the indexing complete, can't see away to turn it off & my hard is gonna pack up any minuite

just unplug your hard drive. ;)
lol
ok found how to disable indexing

To turn off indexing, go to computer, right click your C drive, left click
properties. At the bottom of the properties box you will see a box to enable
or disable indexing on the drive. Remove the check mark and apply to all
files and sub folders. If you get errors on some files click the ignore
button. It does take a few minutes to turn off.

No need to do that, do it with my method. Your method doesn't disable indexing totally, it just disables it per drive.
