Vista hardware acceleration query (sound)

Regarding the difficulties that I'm having upgrading the driver, I'll try out the AutoUpdate feature which I used to use when I had an Audigy 2 ZS sound card on my old Athlon XP based PC.

Nothing to lose if it doesn't work ;)

By uninstalling them and allowing Vista to replace them with legacy drivers.

I then run the new driver installation routine but after rebooting the old drivers dated 7th October 2008 are still there.

The new drivers are dated 17th December 2008.

Yes it's an OEM version, just the CD and sound card with no manual.

How would I go about modding and is it difficult

There's a difference between standard OEM (which is basically the retail card wtih less stuff) and proprietary OEM supplied cards like Dell or HP. Do you know which it is? Unfortunately some of them found their way into retail channels which could make it difficult to track down.

Don't have any direct experience with the proprietary OEM cards but IIRC some of them wouldn't take standard Creative drivers.

Could always try to see if you can track down Dell or HP X-Fi drivers. Is there an driver update facility in the drivers or on the CD?

No and SIW doesn't tell me much but I can't see the names Dell or HP mentioned anywhere which is a good sign surely?

There are a few more lines at the bottom that are cut off but nothing important.

As neither of these manufacturers are showing in SIW perhaps I have a standard OEM card after all?

You mean in Device Manager?
If so there's only the standard update that Vista uses (below):

I don't have the CD as it was damaged when I signed for it (but I didn't know that at the time as I didn't open the jiffy envelope there and then) and I couldn't be bothered to send it back which I really should have done if it means that I can't update my drivers :(

I can still try the AutoUpdate feature but not tonight as I'm too tired :o

The driver date is correct - what Creative have done is release that driver pack in December, but the driver within it is actually from October (I believe it is what used to be the UT3 beta driver). You can verify it yourself - if the card is listed as an X-FI, and after clicking the view driver files button you see a file named ctaud2k.sys, then it's installed correctly.

Edit: Just seen your screenshots you've added just now - it's installed correctly.
