Hi there,

I've very little experience with Vista and my girlfriend has just got a laptop with it on and I was installing an older copy of Bitdefender which Vista doesn't seem to like at all.

At startup I get this error message saying the service for Bit Def has to be stopped. I get no icon for Bit Def. So If I try and remove this program via control panel it gets so far and then says the installer is corrupt and the status bar goes backwards.

I've tried running safe mode and uninstalling, this does the same thing. I've also tried deleting all contents of the folder where it is installing and this has done nothing, a service still runs, and its still a registered program on the system.

How can I completely remove this program from Vista before I get slapped upside of the head?

Thanks for your help!

I didn't try the system restore but I tried re-doing it yeah.

I found a piece of software caleld Revouinstaller. Absolutely superb application, just what I needed. It was free too!

Glad it solved your problem, but an OS should really give you the tools to nuke something good and proper. Don't take that as Windows bashing (I'm using Vista Premium right now).

Yeah I know what you mean and to be honest I did get start worrying as I've not used Vista before. It pretty much forced me to use that application as there was nothing else to do, I had an old piece of software on there, incompatible - half working and unable to be removed.

yeah be warned, if vista kicks up a stink about a program installing, there is a good chance A: it won't work and B: it won't cleanly uninstall... i had to use CCleaner to sort out removing a game vista had said no to at the start!
