Im considering to buy vista pretty soon, but im hearing people are lagging with it in Crysis SP demo? Whats the cut of point to where you wont get lag? I have a e2180 at 2.0ghz, 2gb ram and 8800gtx. Do i simply need to overclock the cpu? Or will i need more ram?

Thanks.

IMO, i wouldnt buy vista. Im going back to XP. Crysis and DX10 mode shouldnt be played for another 10 years according to the creators ! lol !

Crysis doesn't lag here on Vista. People are just being stupid and trying to run it at stupidly high res.

Source? ...I would expect we will be on DX12 at least by then.

Vista is fine, 99% of the problems people are reporting are due to running old software on it. If you make sure you have the latest versions of everything then it will run faster than XP without any problems.

Oh and Crysis runs fine on Vista.

I tried it, but way to many gaming issues. Crash crash crash crash crash.

Course some people have no problems what so ever with it, but I tell people if they game go with XP, if it's just an office type PC then sure get Vista.

It was called sarcasm. Im just miffed with the current crysis/vista performance on my rig.

vista as an OS has only two plus points imo:

1) DX10
2) the 64bit version will be heavily supported in the future and can address more than 4GB memory, XP64 just won't have the support to be a good option.

That's it in my eyes, other than that it's a bling version of XP, and not all of us like bling.

I have run Bf2, Bf2142, Quake Wars, UT3, Crysis Demo, HL2, Supreme Commander, Fear, C&C3, Stalker, BioShock, and others under Vista with full settings enabled and I have NEVER had Vista crash on me. In fact the performance has been excellent.

Wait at least 6 months before contemplating vista.

Its already been out a year this month?

I think vista will improve with the SP1. Untill then XP all the way, ive never ever had a problem with XP.

SP1, like other service packs, will mostly just consist of all the other updates that have been released over the past year in one package. I don’t know why so many people wait for SP1.

I just don't see any point in upgrading right now. Whats it going to give me that XP does n't do already? A few hardly noticeable DX10 features right now. I'll wait another year atleast.

lol what difference does that make ? Its been out a year so buy it is not really a good argument when you actually look at the stats and peformance.

Because the person I was talking to said wait at least 6 months. And also because most of the bad reviews about Vista are from ages ago, it’s been out long enough now that most of the problems have been sorted out.

Indeed, some people seem to think that Vista SP1 is the Holy Grail, and will magically fix any issues they have with the OS. As you say there will likely be little difference between SP1 and retail Vista that's had all the updates available applied the day before.

In my opinion, either people like Vista, or they don't. If they don't then I can't see why they would bother waiting for SP1, just stick with XP or whatever your OS of choice is.

Vista users are like Mothers who have unexpected children then say "i wouldn't have it any other way".

Its always the same, when ever anyone saids they like Vista, they have to get a load of crap back from people saying they are fanboys just becuase vista dosent work for them.

Their is nothing wrong with vista.
