Vista issues after updating internals

Hey guys.

I just installed all my new parts which i got delivered super fast :)

and a 650W OCZ power supply

I got it all plugged in an great first boot attempt would not boot, moved the HDD into sata plug 4 and it worked a treat.
Got all the drivers installed, ( although had a issue with a "unknown device not installing) now since then I've been getting irregular crashes, these can be from intial log on or 25mins (est of longest time).

Trying for the life of me to figure it out, as everything else is running sweet.

Most internet searches are throwing back, virus checks, ram issues, hdd issues. I'm just not great at testing for issues, plus the fact its a overclocked bundle i darent change much incase i lose it.

Did you do a reinstall? I'd suggest a reinstall after a major change to your PC. Though Windows may start OK, you're likely to run into problems like it seems you have.
 
Clear the CMOS, powerOFF and remove the battery for a minute.

The overclocked profile will still be saved in the BIOS.

That will see if its a poor overclock.
 
which one of these shall i try first.

I didnt re-install but i ran vista repair.

Im not too awesome with PC's more of a tinker'er When you say clear the CMOS and remove battery? Could you give me a little more detail? :P

Oh i have had about 2-4 blue screens too :(
 
He means you can clear the CMOS by removing the battery.

Turn the PC off and switch the plug off, then somewhere on your motherboard there is a small battery [about the size of a 2p] take this out for a minute or so. Then put it back in and boot the PC again.

alright i'l give it a shot now, thought you might have meant that. Just needed to be clear.

Also i forgot to mention about 3/4 times on start up it says "fail to read overclock" or something along those line, i enter setup and reactivate the overclocking and it boots up fine again

EDIT : last blue screen was during install of latest GPU drivers.

Okay, so after resetting CMOS, you booted up and it still crashed? Or is it okay? Sounds like a dodgy overclock

If its saying that its failing to read the overclock then give OcUK a ring tomorrow and tell
them what its saying and they will walk you through the settings to get the overclock
stable and how to save the profile m8.

They are really good when it comes to things like this and will help you straight over the
phone which saves you sending the stuff back.

Also if you change stuff like the motherboard and stuff you should do a total new install
of windows so that you don't get any conflicts that might be causing you problems
as well m8.
 
thanks for that update. I cleared the CMOS and its not saved the overclock its now set target to its original clock speed.

I've not crashed yet, but will see what happens, tomorrow i will ring them for advice on clocking it again.. after that i will do new install of windows. (i assume this doesnt remove majority of info.. sounds stupid i know)

The idea was to reset back to stock speed to see if the overclock was the problem - as stulid said the settings will be saved in there.

But maybe best just to just give them a ring :)
 
If you've changed the motherboard you will need to reinstall and reactivate Vista - from memory, as the whole pc profile has changed.
 
thanks for all the advice been well over a hour and played some CoD to test it out, no crashes. So the issue must have been with the overclock, il speak to OCUK tomorrow
 
spoke with ocuk, possible voltage but issue is still there.

ran a clean install as well. Keep getting a drive check every time i boot up, so possibly a harddrive issue?

About to throw it all out the window and forget it lol
 
Small update.

Got pc running on windows 7 all seemed fine. Noticed clock wasnt on. Added the over clock within 1-2hours got my first freeze, rebooted froze straight away.

Going to get back in touch with OCUK, last advice was to up the CPU voltage, Hasnt made any difference :*(

Ran Overclock test (OCCT), reported back with a error on core #1 any idea?
