Ok, so VISTA ultimate is ludicrously priced here in the UK. I know someone going to the states soon, and I was going to get them to grab me a copy while they are there.

Firstly I was wondering does Vista handle localisation differently than any previous version of windows? ie. Is vista US different to Vista UK in any way?

When installing the product, does the UK version default to USA keyboard and language settings as with every previous version of windows?

Cheers.

Its exactly the same including the activation/tech support (anyone ever really had to use thier tech support anyway?) :)
I,ve been using mine which my uncle got for me from the states for a few months now for the same reasons.
When you install the us version your given the option of which language for the keyboard/language so you just change it to uk from us for the 2 settings and thats it.
I'm not sure what the uk version of vista's default to but knowing microsoft its us settings too.

Actually, your support won't be valid in the UK, but your activation will.

However, the company that sold it to you could get their license with MS revoked if they get caught.

I won't disagree as you know you stuff when it comes to all of this :p but what would happen then if someone goes on holiday to the us/canada to stay with friends for a month or 2, install it overthere and use it and then go back to the uk instead of the usual get a friend etc to bring it straight over?
Surely microsoft can't get away with refusing any tech support at all to those people as it only mentions "for distribution in us/canada" on the product bit?

Its not over priced, its the same price in the UK. Its just that your doubling your money going to states so thats why its cheaper.

So i can activate windows ok. But what about when I change hardware. If I have to phone mircrosoft to tell them I'm changing hardware, would the invalid support issue arise?

Cheers

No, it's still an activation issue, which you shouldn't have a problem with.

Yup, MS can and have refused product support for software moved out of it's original distribution area.

But how many people actually use MS phone support?
