how accurate/good is the vista memory diagnostics?

i recently bought som OCZ (2 x 2GB) 8000 Reaper x HPC with the huuuuuuuuuuge heat sinks replacing some 5300 geil (2 x 1GB) but my vista score for memory only increased by one and the board wouldn't recognise it as 8000.

i manually set it to the correct settings and all was well for a short while then i kept getting memory BSODs.

i ran the memory diagnostics and before it even started the test said there was a problem with some hardware.

cut a long story short it failed on the memory test, is the test good enough for me to RMA the memory?

put old sticks in and running fine (if a little slow).

as i said all settings were manually set to what the sticks said they should be as the motherboard in auto well underclocked them.

even when i let the motherboard choose the setting 1.8v and 667 the memory failed the vista test.

so yet again i ask how accurate is the vista test?

does it fail a test when they are OK or only fail when there is a problem?

Download and burn the memtest .iso to CD from http://www.memtest.org/

Boot from it and let it complete a couple of cycles to see if it brings up any errors.

that means stripping the pc down again

i know one thing is for sure since i took out the memory and put my old memory back in i have not had a single BSOD at either start up or while playing games.

think i'll just RMA it.
