vista mic problems

i had my mic connected in vista to the rear jack, worked perfectly, but then i connected it to the front, but it still stays its on the rear, and i cant record anything from the front.

how do i point it to recognise the mic from the front?

Is the front port actually connected to the right thing internally???

Ususally there will be a header of some sort

front port is connected.

the headsets speakers work fromt he front port, but the mic onyl seems to work int he back port, and the leads are connected closely, so i cant just put the heasphones int he front and mic at back
