Vista networking problems...

Anyone else suffering from networking problems in Vista?

I've done a decent build which works perfectly, and installed it on a router. Set the router up correctly and the internet works fine, but then the internet stops working.

I check network and it shows it is connected to the Netgear router but that it's disconnected from the internet. I click repair, nothing happens.

I am using a DS4 - could it be anything to do with the drivers for the ethernet port?

you got any other clients on the network or just the one pc ?

if so do these other clients work fine when yours doesnt ?

One PC, but I've taken the router out of the pc, stuck it in another and it works fine...

when this is actually happenning can you ping the router ?

and crucially can you ping any websites ?

and what happens if you ping their IPs (google is 216.236.59.104)

This has happened twice. The first time, it wouldn't let me access the router.

Right now, it wont access the DNS but I havn't had the chance to examine it for any other functionality. I think it can exchange information but can't surf websites on either IE or FireFox

happens to me on my 680i board, I have to change to the other ethernet port or reboot to sort it, most odd :rolleyes:

There is only one ethernet port on this board and a reboot does not help

silly queston but have u tried another ethernet port on your router?

also tried reboot router after a pc reboot?

Yes.

Yes.

I'm thinking its a ethernet/Vista issue - but I don't know hot to fix it considering that disabling and reinstalling doesn't seem to work

Are you running the latest (14/03) LAN drivers from here http://tw.giga-byte.com/Support/Mot...rboard&ProductID=2393&ProductName=GA-965G-DS4

I just really do not know what to do...

It's an IE problem I think, because every other form of internet connection is working...

Then try another browser. I can't recommend Opera enough....

I've got the offending computer right in front of me...

I've tried installing and reinstalling the ethernet port to no avail - IE wont bring up any websites and I can't even use the IP of the router to check the router... anyone got any ideas?

I've changed from a router to another modem, both have the same problem. This seems to have happened for no reason and a reinstall of windows has cured it, only for the exact same thing to happen again...

i have got a ds4 and vista 64, i had many problems with it
e.g.
i can access some computers on the network but not all (could access all with xp)
still cant access them all now
the most annoying bearing in mind this is a new product, every so often the 32 bit IE stops working , and the only way i can get it to work again is by doing a system restore!
tried the latest lan drivers for the ds4-still no joy

Have you looked at your lan settings within IE?

From tools...internet options......connections

Untick everything close IE and re open

I think this may be the problem - after discussing it with people I think that if I can't access the router then it must be an ethernet problem. I'm using the right drivers, so if it isn't working I think it must be ethernet + Vista problems.

I went out and purchased a ethernet PCI card last night (from a swindling competitor with chain stores everywhere who like to associate themselves with PCs) and I hope that using a card will resolve the problem.

My friend (who's not the best with computers) got told by telewest they couldn't give him broadband because he had vista and it's not compatible...which makes noooooo sense at all.

Fair enough, for some strange reason it might not work if it's hooked up directly to the computer and their network doesn't configure correctly...but surely getting a router which accepts the connection, then connecting to the router would work...

Sounds totally weird to me...maybe there is some logical reason though...
