Have you looked at your lan settings within IE?

From tools...internet options......connections

Untick everything close IE and re open

do the above

untick everything in lan settings

that should sort it

whole different kettle of fish if its only ie thats not working. You can stop fiddling with network cables and drivers etc.. if its just ie then it's ie thats the problem.

Anyone else suffering from networking problems in Vista?

I've done a decent build which works perfectly, and installed it on a router. Set the router up correctly and the internet works fine, but then the internet stops working.

I check network and it shows it is connected to the Netgear router but that it's disconnected from the internet. I click repair, nothing happens.

I am using a DS4 - could it be anything to do with the drivers for the ethernet port?

Yes,

I had the same sort of problem to which I started a thread about it. try the following when you lose internet connectivity:

Go into "Services" and restart "Network Connectivity", you may have to do it a few times, this restored my access and I have not lost access in the two days since I did this.

Have you got the port set to Auto-Negotiation?

Set it to the speed of your router and see what happens. This should be found in device manager > nic settings.

This hasn't worked. Stopped and started it twice, same thing happened.

I've also reset setting in IE, that didn't work.

I've also got a Netgear PCI Ethernet card, same thing happening...

Okay guys, lets take have a checklist...

  • The router IS showing up in networking, and properties shows information - therefore it must be connected and able to communicate with the computer

  • I have tried the onboard ethernet port, and a PCI ethernet card and both have the same result

  • IE will not access the router, yet Vista itself seems to be able to access it

  • LAN settings are okay

  • IE settings were reset to the same result

Given the above I am almost certain that some service or something is responsible for this. I don't think its hardware compatability, I think it is some glitch in Vista...

I've tried everything I can think of, tonight I will try to find if there is an incompatability between IE and any third party software that might have been installed...

If this doesn't work I will re-install Vista. If it happens again I will be back to XP.

UPDATE:

I've managed to get it to surf from the Vista 'welcome' screen. If I click on "Connect to the internet" it will say its already connected and then I can choose "Browse now" and hey presto.

It can also download updates etc...

I've also found that the Windows Event Log seems to be recording some sort of dhcp error... what could be causing that?
