just installed some updates then after restarting got BSOD then restarted again after bsod and got another, all is working fine but after the x-fi update my vista would bsod and crash everytime i played a game and had to uninstall all creative drivers and get the official ones fromt heir website, anyone else noticed that the updates are making the OS worse, when i first got it i had no problems now BSOD's all the time with newer updates, i think all problems are driver related, why didnt microsoft give vista to all hardware manufacturers months before release so by now they could have made drivers that dont kill our computers, im actually now contemplating moving back to XP and waiting until vista matures but i still like a lot of its features

The updates have been fine for me, sorted a few little issues out. I dont have the x-fi sound card though.

I had exactly the same problem. Don't let Vista update your X-fi drivers and don't give up by going back to XP. Vista is the way forward, don't go back to an old OS.

Do a system restore and be careful about letting Vista update your Creative drivers in the future.

There is a known issue with ATIs current drivers which are causing some people to get caught in a BSOD loop (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION).. if this is what you're seeing let me know :)

My system Vista 64bit was working great, but then today it has been crashing randomly.

The only things I have installed recently before shutting my PC down last were Nero Burning Rom last night. Worked fine and then today, 2 Vista updates both were called:

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)

and

Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB941833).

I have an ATi Radeon 3870x2.

I unistalled CCC for 10 minutes and didnt get a crash and see'ing as it was an almost instant crash after startup and I hadn't crashed again since unistalling Ati Drivers and CCC I reinstalled them again and its crashed again since. I'm not 100% sure its a problem with the ATi drivers conflicting with something else but im leaning that way.

Any comments guys?

EDIT
Just to add to this guys I am not only getting the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION msg, but before that one appeared I got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL :(

Im so pi$$ed off with Vista at the moment.

Heres the story. All was well untill I installed SP1 then I got lots of BSOD and Crashies.
I did systems restores, CHKDSK, SCANDISKs, and Vistas own Startup Repair on the DVD.
Still the OS was unstable so bit the bullet and did a full wipe / partition / format with Maxblast5. then Bios Upgrade to 16.
So after a good 6 hours, reinstalled Vista (with just 2gb ram because it dosnt like 4gb when installing) then ran all the updates and then put the remaining 2gb back in.
Got the overclock setting back as they were before and everthing seems to be ok.
But windows Update kepped bugging me to install SP1. In the end I thought id rather do it now and see what happens than later when i've got all my stuff back on there.
SP1 installed ok and I thought Great! but now the ***ker wont shut down and I never had this problem before?

Any one else had probs with SP1?
