Vista only for Halo 2!

Sorry for the offence,

You two seem to quoting directly from an ms marketing brochure.

Having said that vista probably will be good although not as good as it was originally intended to be.

As some guys stated earlier best wait till sp1 at least though and get an oem copy.

Dont you love kids who know everything, god I sound like the middle aged dad I am, I used to be a young kid once you know.

ps vista will be a fudge na na na!! now back to battlefield 2 to get killed by 12 year olds time after time.
regards

I love nvidia i hate ati i love amd i hate intel i love linux i hate windows oops actually i now hate linux and love windows.

Ok I relent I probably will buy vista when its released I love playing with stuff who cares about the bugs the fun is in sorting it out.

ok vista will be great, I've just remembered trying to persuade people how good xp is.

ok I still dont get osx though yes its got style but what else ok so i'll probably end up with osx, so confusing, must test out the speed of dragging windows around as scientificly as poss.

I know lets set up a consultancy, your business can save millions, do you realise your employees spend 5 days a year dragging windows around, ok they spend 2 months a year peeing, get them a cafata, ok they spend 6 months a year chatting gag them, ok now your employess save time dragging windows not talking and peeing at their desk (maybe a bucket and a chair with a hole) you can sack half of them I Think I've lost the plot bye bye

The problem I have with the upcoming windows Vista is there DRM checking methods.
I mean I have a media file and before I can play it, vista will check to see if I have the rights to play it and wether I'm alouded to use the player I want to view it.
I even heard things that if it is DRM protected then only a DRM enable monitor will be allowed to display it.

I mean thats taking the biscuit. Its taking it too far into almost censoring what we can do with our computer.

This has been mentioned in threads, even probably this one. EDIT: This has been mentioned in this very thread. Go back to around post #78.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Microsoft - they have to implement it, or you won't be able to watch the DRM content at all. These things have been decided by Hollywood studios - so go and blame them.

All existing DVDs, CDs etc will still play the exact same way. New HD-DVDs with HDCP on them will require you to have an HDCP compatible video card and monitor, or the content will be downsampled to SD.

That's the gist of it, anyway.

Halo 2 is Microsofts way of forcing people to update cause of you think about all the Halo fans just to play Halo 2 for most of them will pay for the new OS

personaly i think it's stupid cause I like Halo 2 and don't see why i need to get a new OS just to play the game

doubt it, Halo2's going to be ancient by the time they release it.
People will still buy it en-mass.
Not everyone has a Xbox to play it on. And then there are the sad people who already have it for Xbox, who'll rebuy it, just to play it with a keyboard/mouse/higher resolution.

I didn't know whether to laugh or not at that story when I read it this morning. The whole point of trusted computing is to secure PC's and if the government has a backdoor then it's useless so no-one will use it. It'll be another reason given to move to Linux for companies that want to use it.

I held off getting winxp until early 2003, so if I hold off getting vista for a similar amount of time... halo 2 should be in the bargain bin by then. £9.99 w00t :D

It's in the bargain bin for £9.99 already :p (on the xbox)

(in fact in *the bin* is the best place for it, by all accounts, but I digress :))

I just dont like the way the Vista OS is heading, all this DRM stuff (whether it's microsoft's fault or not) is just a bit to oppressive. I don't really do anything illigal with my pc, but I'm very stubborn and out of principle I dont like an OS that has the potential to stop me watching or doing what I want and in the way that I want.

I think it could have an impact on PC gaming and people who see the PC as a hobby, I will just not bother getting Vista, I'll happily carry on using my PC with XP on it. If games come out as Vista only then I will buy the console version or just not bother with it. Infact I can see myself just using my consoles more and more for gaming anyway. I'll just keep my PC for browsing the web, and work. I sure don't need a new OS to do that as XP works fine.

I'm not against a new OS being released. If Microsoft were to release one that handled internet security better, had less security loop holes, had none of this DRM rubbish in, gave a performance increase on existing hardware whilst having features that will be used in future hardware etc. then I would probably upgrade. As it is, Vista doesn't seem like that OS to me.

I think the point is the movies studios/Music labels are saying without a DRM enabled device / OS you won't be able to view/listen to content unless you pirate it, in which case theft kinda takes away the moral high ground when objecting to DRM.

iTunes / iPod etc have had DRM for ages... This is hardly news...

I agree to a certain extent, I have no objection to any system that is designed to prevent piracy as long as it is not intrusive to those who do not pirate things. The problem at the minute is that if I install Vista and then want to watch a HiDef movie I am going to have to upgrade my Monitor, or watch it in SD. The monitor I have works fine, it runs at a high enough res. to display a high def movie so why should I have to replace an expensive bit of kit, especially when I don't pirate anything. Whether this is Microsofts fault or not is a non issue for me, surely Microsoft are big enough to have told them to implement DRM in a different way that would not cause these sorts of issues.

It's no problem for me at the end of the day, I have no intention to upgrade anyway as XP does everything I currently want. All it will do is drive me away from the PC hobby I have enjoyed for years. I'll just stick to playing games on my 360/PS3, watching HiDef movies on my home HDDVD/Bluray player and finally do away with my PC. I'll probably just keep my Laptop for browsing the net. Just seems like the wrong direction to be steering the PC market down, all imho of course.
