Vista sleep mode problem

Hey guys

Just recently put a new PC together. For reference, the thread regarding this is: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17810103. It includes my final spec.

Motherboard: Asus P5K-C

I'm running Vista and can enter sleep mode fine with it fully complete when the power light starts flashing. However, I can't come out of this without switching off the PC and switching it back on again.

So far I have tried the power button its self as well as my wireless USB keyboard and mouse. I have checked the settings and they are set to wake the PC up from sleep mode. I have noticed that, when in standby, the USB receiver lights go out (with USB power being cut I assume). When I then click the mouse or a button on the keyboard the receiver lights come back on. However, the PC is still in sleep mode, the power button is still flashing.

I'm confused because I can't figure out if it's Vista playing up or the motherboard and/or motherboard bios or another item in the PC.

Thanks for any help.

i have a similar problem, vista 64 goes to sleep and i can wake it up with the power button or mouse/keyboard, but when it does come back to life the screen is totally garbled and i have to switch it off and back on again.

problem is windows then says it didn't shut down properly and wants to start in safe mode.

how do i:

a) get it so it starts up without scrambling the screen and then having to switch it off and on again?; or
b) not go to sleep at all?

running a q6600 on a x38 dq6

cheers

Are you referring to s3 sleep mode - Suspend to RAM?

If so, try increasing your memory voltage a touch (in the BIOS).

I've had problems getting STR to function correctly with virtually every system I've built and on each occasion, the cause is different.

Some other things to check:

If using an X-fi sound card, use the latest driver

If your motherboard uses the Azalia sound codec, use the native Vista driver, not the Realtek version. Also, try disabling in the BIOS altogether.

Test using just one stick of memory.

Update video card drivers

Update motherboard's BIOS

If you have either, try disabling crossfire/SLI before entering standby.

If you have any PCI/PCI-e cards installed besides graphics, try physically removing them individually and testing each time, additionally, do same for any USB/firewire devices...could easily be one particular peripheral and/or driver that's causing the issue.

There are many issues relating to sleep/standby that have been resolved in various hotfixs from M$

Service Pack 1 contains the majority of these. However remember that SP1 is only in RC!

I had that problem, had a fiddle with the settings in Vista and it is fine now. I think that I said to turn off USB connections, for some reason it was my wireless adapter that was causing the problems.

Hmm, at least I'm not alone on this.

I'll try some of the things you suggested balth_dire when I get the time.

I'll report back on any change in the problem.

I have a similar problem - PC sleeps fine, but when 'waking up' the graphics card fan locks at full speed and nothing gets displayed on screen. End up having to turn the PC off completely.

Weird though, because initially it worked fine. Probably my graphics card causing issues(again), but I'm not sure.
