Hi guys,

Just a quick one really reference the compatability of my mobos onboard sound with vista. I'm basically wondering if anyone knows if it'll work without any dramas.

Done the usual googling but can't find a definate answer, and I'm a bit nervous about upgrading to vista given that I can't afford to get the X-fi card for a couple more months.

If anyone could confirm this either way it'd be great.

Hmm... Asus' site is about as smart as poking an angry beehive with a sharp polearm coated in sugar.

I've managed to find what model your sound chip is though... SoundMAX ADI1988.

(Taken from http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2N-SLI Deluxe under sound drivers)

However, there are no drivers on Soundmax's site, and they don't even list Asus as an official partner?

I think you're stuck until Asus catch up, either that or try emailing them asking for more information.

Thanks for that mate. Looks like I'm best off getting a proper soundcard then. Fortunatly after a bit of maths it looks like I can get myself an X-Fi Xtreme gamer and vista next month.

As long as I live like a hermit and only eat beans on toast next month.
But meh, who needs food when you've got an nice shiney new toy to play with. :D

Getting one myself next month. :)

Don't forget the X-Fi is still in beta drivers for Vista, so performance won't be 100%.

much less than 100% to be honest, and don't even consider 64bit vista with an Xf-i card there is pretty much no support with no spdif, no support programs only a very shaky beta driver that crashes and drops out on a whim..

I think the problem is that MS have changed the way sound works in Vista from how it did in XP and some companies are finding it difficult to convert.
