The system has been working perfectly, and i have recently been leaving it on over night.

Then problems started to happen when leaving it on.

The system is at stock settings.

I'd come back to it in the morning and the mouse pointer would move, the side bar would react when i hovered the mouse over it, and i could collapse and expand the system tray.

I have run mem test and came back with no errors, and I am currently running Prime95. At 69% completed.

although it will let me do the above, it wont allow me to open any folders or programs, not even the start menu.

Howeer, curiously it allowed me to right click on certain items in the system tray and close them.

So i closed prime95. and a few other programs, but still didnt let me open closed folders programs, situated on desk top or open start menu.

The system was doing this, even before i installed prime 95, so i doubt that is the cause. and even when i closed prime 95 this morning, the CPU usage on the side bar went back to nominal usage, rather that 100% usage. So it did close.

i'm going to leave pc open with bare minimum programs on tonight, to try and narrow it down, whether a program is making it do this or not.

I have kasperky anti virus outlook and azuerus open. plus core temp. So i will turn modem off and have all these programs closed tonight and see if it still becomes unstable/crash.

I looked in event viewer and there are a few critical things happening plus this below, which happened when i installed kasperky, but only just found it.

"The application (Kaspersky Internet Security Suite or Anti-Virus, from vendor ) was hard-blocked and raised the following: Kaspersky Internet Security Suite or Anti-Virus is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact <VENDOR>."

But it still seems to work and respond normally? And Kasperky hasnt once crashed since i installed it 3 weeks ago.

The last critical errror was last night @ 3am, which read:

"The server {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.".

When i restarted, it had the same error in event viewer, but hasnt crashed or any thing.

I seem to get a lot or warnings for spoolerwin32spl??

I would like to add that the pc doesnt crash or is slow throught the day, not even with prime95 running.

Any one go any recommendations on what could be the problem, to help me try and narrow this down?

Thanks for your help.

what are your cpu Temps? There could be an overvoltage causing a timeout on your CPU. Or the ACPI Uttility is not installed correctly. these are all silly things, I know but we all make slips from time to time.

I'd suggest it was the AV program - probably doing a scan at the time.

I'd get rid of it and put something like aVast or another free AV on there and see if you have the same problems if you don't then it was down to the AV.

Update, I have left PC on overnight, with bare minium programs running.

And PC was fine, so i guess it was a software problem, I'll tray and narrow it down tonight, with kaspersky running.

Thanks for coming back to me also, it could well be the AV Prog, but i didnt set it to scan at these times.

Any one had problems with kasperky and vista 64?

I believe that if you lookup the program in the database you will find that Kaspersky sometimes has conflicts with Bitlocker and ReadyBoost. Some MB's have this onboard and have to switch it off temporarily when using certain programs. This because Bitlocker is security orientated and cannot be accessed by some AV programs looking there for Trojans etc. Thus you get a conflict. The AV program tries to quarunteen the memory but cannot and goes into a proceedure lockdown. I have no idea if either of your MB's support this issue but if you find this to be your problem MS and Kaspersky are the ones you should be looking for hotfixes from.
I first came across this problem myself when setting up an ASUS MB for a friend and the only way I could stop the issue was to turn off the readyboost memory in the Bios. That was about 6 months ago, I thought they would have sorted out the issue by now and provided a fix built into the program.
If you are not using Readyboost or Bitlocker just remember they are part of Windows services so this could still be your issue.

Left my pc on again last night with AVG installed and all the usual programs runnig, and was instantly responsive this morning. No lock or any thing. So i guess it was defo down to kaspersky.

Temp wise, from core temp, they were showing in the low 30's.

Another question, if you dont mind, when runnig prime95, what sort of temps should i expect? I have seen them up to 69-72 degrees. I have bought a tinuq tower yesterday, so will add that and change the thermal paste.
