Vista windows media player, stopped working

Hi

My wmp in vista has just stopped working for no apparent reason, only thing i can think of thats been installed recently is windows updates yesterday

videos that are embedded into websites, msn.co.uk for example work fine
but when the actual media player opens it starts to play the vid then comes up with "windows media player has stopped working" and gives me an option to search for a solution (to no avail) or to close program

this is in windows vista 64 ultimate edition since yesterday

i installed a quad core cpu yesterday aswell, but cant see that that would effect it

Do you have any videos on your machine Also is Nero ShowTime installed by any chance? or it's video codces?

I found the above program caused these issues with my machine.

Have you considered using alternative software like DivX or the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack?
