Visual Studio update not installing

I ran Windows Update the other day and found I had an update for Visual Studio to install. So I add it to the queues with the other updates. They download and install fine. The Visual Studio update downloads OK but doesn't install. So I download the manual update file. When I tried that the msiexec.exe in the Task Manager was at 99% processor usage with the RAM being used increasing all the time.

Any idea what the problem is? Should I try disabling NOD32? Can't see why this would work when the other updates were OK with NOD32 being on. I have googled but all I can find is people being prompted to install the update multiple times. I can't even get that far!

The update in question is KB937061.

Sorry to hijack thread, but any idea when the new visual studios is out?

I would download it seperately and install manually. Microsoft Update can be a bit wierd sometimes I've found.

VS2008 "Orcas" will be out any day now really.. I cannot wait

Ahem! I have done that. That is how I know the msiexec.exe process is at 99%.

If my Uni give us VS2005 free now when will I be able to nab VS2008 off them?

I've tried installing the patch manually with NOD32 and Comodo off. No luck.

I did get an error code that might be of use. 2755. I've googled it but I haven't found anything that seems to suggest a problem I might have. Any other ideas?

Have you tried unpacking the KB and then running the msi or hotfix directly?

Yep. Did that earlier. Unpacked it and same thing happens. The msiexec.exe at 99% usage continually until it gives up.

Right, I tried the Windows Update again and this time there were two updates to install. Both of which were already downloaded so I thought I'd try it again. It worked. :rolleyes:

So thanks all and I have no clue why it works now.
