Vive Knuckles EV2

i think they suck
you are not alone, however after a fairly vocal complaint by folk knuckles was redesigned with joysticks so i am fairly confident they will be decent.

i get the thinking behind the steam pads, and they do have a use case - gaming on the sofa with games which work much better with KB/M however i think it is fair to say most people prefer either a traditional pad experience OR will just use a KB/M.

the vive wands tho, are just inferior to touch in most cases imo, and are the reason why i have never contemplated a vive/vivepro etc.

however with knuckes at worst they will be equivalent to oculus touch - which is a win for us regardless of if we get one or not as games will translate much better between oculus and steamvr games... i know i am now interested in the valve index when previously i wouldnt really have been

Yeah I have no doubt knuckles will be a gen up from the touch

In practice, for multiplatform games I doubt there'll be much difference in how the games play. Touch does about 70% of what Knuckles does, in fact the stick and button layout almost directly mimics Touch. For games specifically designed for them they will be amazing though.

Just watched that. While there's the physical buttons for functional control of the conventional as we know it, the index/knuckles really aren't about that.

Valve really must have something up their sleeve that fully exploits that level of control.

2 weeks today can't come soon enough.
