it's completely legit.

If you are a new user, you should get a two week trial. You can decide yourself if you like it or not.

For me, I don't think it offers very much so never bothered with it after the trial period.

I had the trial over Christmas.

Biggest problem I had was the number of games with control issues on Quest 2. I just want to launch a game and play. I don't want to have to dig around in SteamVR for custom bindings, then hold the controllers at an awkward angle because the Viveport version of a game is designed for the Vive controllers. Some games were worse, completely failing to work at all (Gnomes & Goblins).

Really wasn't impressed at all. I went in to the trial thinking I'd probably sub for a month or two. But a few days in to the trial I got bored of the problems and bought SW: Squadrons instead.

Still, some games worked well and £0 for a 14-day trial can't be grumbled at. But for £12.99/month, I'd sooner just buy one native Quest game a month.
